Spurs Look To Keep Heat on The Ropes With Game Four Thursday

Posted by Craig Parsons on 6/12/2013 7:21:14 PM

The NBA playoffs are all about making adjustments. After suffering one of the biggest blowout losses in the history of the game, it’s now the Miami Heat’s turn to make them. The Heat will try to rebound from a devastating 113-77 loss when they take on the San Antonio Spurs in game four of the NBA Finals on Thursday. San Antonio rebounded from its worst loss of the season in game two and took back control of the sports betting series, and now they have the chance to take a commanding three-games-to-one lead. Miami can’t afford to go down 3-1 with game five also to be played in Texas, and that should lead to a much greater sense of urgency in game four.

NBA Sportsbook Line: San Antonio – 2.5

Whether it was their offense, defense, star players, or bench players, San Antonio stepped up in a big way in game three and made a statement with that 36-point win. That includes 20 fast break points and an NBA Finals record 16 three-point shots, as the Spurs swarmed the Heat from the opening tip off and never gave them a chance to get off the ropes.

NBA Betting Preview: Miami Heat

30 players have reached the NBA Finals in the same year that they won the MVP, but you would have to go back to the 1950’s to find an MVP that shot worse than Lebron James has in this series. Lebron is shooting just 38.9-percent from the field through three games, and that includes less than 30-percent on isolation plays. Lebron went 0-for-4 when he drove to the net in game three, but it wasn’t like he had an alternative considering he went 2-for-14 from the field. Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh once again failed to pick up the slack with a combined 28 points on 11-of-25 shooting, and unlike game two Miami didn’t have a single bench player reach double digits.

NBA Betting Preview: San Antonio Spurs

The Spurs had one bench player reach double-digits, and that was Gary Neal, who scored 24 points including six three-point baskets in the win. Danny Green stole the spotlight though with a game-high 27 points, and hit 7-of-9 shots from beyond the arc. The tandem of Neal and Green really stepped up in the win, and may need to take on a bigger role again in game four if Tony Parker is slowed by a hamstring injury. Parker played just 27 minutes before head coach Gregg Popovich made the call to rest him, and how much he contributes in game four is something few outside of the organization can predict. Tim Duncan went back to work with 12 points and 14 rebounds in the game-four win, and will continue to look for Green and Neal on the perimeter as long as they keep hitting open shots.

NBA Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

The Heat had no answer for the Spurs’ perimeter shooting in game three, and the result was absolutely devastating as Miami fell apart. Now Lebron and company have to find a way to win at least one of the next two games in San Antonio to avoid elimination and send the series back to South Beach, and there will be a real sense of urgency to bounce back with an online sports betting win. Whether or not they are able to slow down the Spurs’ outside shooting will play a huge role in the outcome of this game, but it won’t even matter if Lebron and company don’t get going on offense.
