Baylor Kansas Betting – Can Baylor Possibly Remain Unbeaten In Lawrence?

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/6/2014 10:02:31 PM

The Big 12’s best team to this point in the season is not the Kansas Jayhawks. The longtime standard bearer in this league is having to cede the spotlight to the surprising Baylor Bears.

Baylor Bears @ Kansas Jayhawks - Monday, January 16

Why Baylor Will Win

The college basketball betting experts who are beginning to finely train their eyes on this season of roundball are looking on in wonderment at the body of work being put together by the Baylor Bears. Coach Scott Drew’s team didn’t even make the Big Dance last season after making an Elite Eight run in the 2010 NCAA Tournament. However, after a year in the outhouse, the Bears are back in the penthouse. Right now, if you tried to seed and bracket the 2012 NCAA Tournament, Baylor would unquestionably be a No. 1 seed. The Bears won at BYU. They held off Mississippi State. They knocked back San Diego State and climbed over West Virginia. Then, they went into Manhattan, Kansas this past week and took down Kansas State. This is a team with stacks of road and neutral wins and very few cupcakes. It has a lot of wins against teams that are in the top 50 and top 100 of the ratings percentage index rankings.

Not many other teams have the wins Baylor has, and since the Bears are unbeaten, it’s entirely accurate to say that almost every other team (Syracuse and Kentucky are exceptions) owns at least one bad loss. This track record of quality is hard to bet against, especially since – as mentioned above – much of it has been fashioned in road and neutral contests. It’s very hard to win at Kansas, but the Jayhawks aren’t what they used to be. KU lost to Davidson College this season, a horrible and unfathomable loss that previous Jayhawk clubs just wouldn’t have suffered. Baylor will not be intimidated when it goes to Lawrence, and that could be the biggest factor riding in BU’s favor.

Why Kansas Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, you have to realize how incredibly difficult it is to make it through an entire college basketball season without a single defeat. The last team to go unbeaten through a full season remains the 1976 Indiana Hoosiers. College basketball is too much of a grind, and its roughly 35- to 39-game schedule is just too daunting; it offers too many opportunities for a team to lose. Baylor will likely be a No. 2 seed at the very least, and it will have a shot at locking down a No. 1 seed for the 2012 NCAA Tournament, but the Bears are not likely to carry a perfect record through the Big 12 Conference season. Kansas isn’t quite as formidable as it was in past years, but the Jayhawks thrive in their home building, Phog Allen Fieldhouse. A loss at “The Phog” is a once-every-three-or-four-year event for Kansas. If ever there was a time for the Jayhawks to regroup and claim a big scalp this season, it’s against Baylor.

Who Will Win

It’s not hard to put in perspective: The 1991 UNLV Runnin’ Rebels carried a perfect record into the Final Four, the last team to pull off that particular feat. Can Baylor keep defying the odds? Probably not – take Kansas.
