Baylor Bears @ Missouri Tigers - Saturday, February 11

Why Baylor Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, it’s worth mentioning that Missouri’s recent triumph shouldn’t be viewed in a completely favorable light. Missouri was very lucky to escape the Kansas Jayhawks with yet another conference win. With 1:43 left in this contest, Kansas owned a 71-66 lead in Columbia, Missouri, and was very much in control. Thomas Robinson was destroying the homestanding Tigers in the low post, and as he made a graceful spin move to the bucket for a layup, it appeared that KU had established a seven-point lead, more than two possessions. Missouri was running out of both time and opportunities, while the resilient Jayhawks - playing above expectations - stood on the cusp of their most satisfying win this year. There was just one problem: An official called a charge on Robinson, who did not lower his shoulder or create direct, head-on contact with the Missouri defender who plainly failed to guard him in the lane.

The call negated the bucket by Robinson and kept the margin at five points. When Missouri guard Marcus Denmon hit a trifecta to put the Tigers within two points on the following possession, what had been a clear Kansas advantage turned into a very uncertain proposition. The energy inside Mizzou Arena changed on a dime, and so did the game’s overall trajectory. Kansas's last few possessions bogged down, while guard Tyshawn Taylor missed two foul shots in the final minute. Missouri was able to pull off a 74-71 win thanks to an 11-0 run, a run aided by the referees. Missouri’s shot selection and ballhandling were quite poor against Kansas. Baylor – with its size inside – can certainly outmuscle the Tigers if it’s up to the task.

Why Missouri Will Win

The college basketball betting experts who follow the Big 12 Conference for a living know that while Missouri was fortunate to win two games last week by a total of four points, the other side of the coin is that Baylor is losing strength as the season unfolds. Baylor’s guards were dynamic earlier in the season, but they got outplayed by Missouri’s guards a few weeks ago in Waco, Texas, on the Bears’ home court. Marcus Denmon outplayed Pierre Jackson, and Baylor sniper Brady Heslip – who has to hit threes for BU to be effective – simply couldn’t knock down big shots. It will be that much more difficult for Heslip to get free of Missouri’s defense in this road game, and it’s a big question if Baylor can stand in the ring for 40 minutes and trade punches. Baylor got waxed when it faced Kansas on the road, losing by 18 points and faltering midway through the second half, before the stretch run even arrived. Missouri is playing with confidence. You can put two and two together.

Who Will Win

It’s very hard to pick against Missouri here. The Tigers know they got away with one against Kansas, but that close shave should only make Mizzou more focused against a Baylor team that is giving ground as each week of the Big 12 season comes and goes. Take Missouri.
