Betting On Louisville Syracuse - Louisville Tries To Get It Right Against Syracuse

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/10/2014 4:20:28 AM

The Syracuse Orange barely escaped the Louisville Cardinals the first time the two teams met this season. Louisville will try to make the most of its second chance this weekend.

Why Louisville Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, it’s worth mentioning that Syracuse seems to be living on borrowed time and borrowed luck. The Orange are winning almost every game they play, but they’re hardly dominating their opponents. Syracuse just beat Connecticut by two points. It beat West Virginia and Georgetown at home by one possession (no more than three points) earlier in the season. The Orange also, of course, won by a 52-51 margin at Louisville in a game played a few weeks ago. The Cardinals outplayed Syracuse for most of the night, losing only because their starting point guard, Peyton Siva, got into early foul trouble and could not regain his rhythm when returning from an extended break.

Siva had been slashing through Syracuse’s vaunted 2-3 zone before he picked up his second and third fouls. His prolonged absence from the contest was the main reason why Syracuse won, and even then, the Orange prevailed by only one point because their three-point shooting – which has noticeably worsened over the course of the season – did not bring about good results. Louisville coach Rick Pitino used his own zone defense against Syracuse that night, and the Orange did not handle it very effectively. As long as Siva can stay on the court in this game, Louisville has a really good chance of pulling off the upset. Syracuse wants to play a fast-paced, open-court game, but Louisville is tough enough at the defensive end of the floor to prevent that from happening.

Why Syracuse Will Win

The college basketball betting experts who follow the Big East Conference for a living know that Syracuse is now certain to be a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament. You don’t get to be a lock for a top seed without being very resourceful, and that describes the Orange to a tee in 2012. They do win close games, but basketball is a sport of close games. Syracuse finds ways to win, so when playing this game at home in the Carrier Dome, the Orange should be expected to pull through. They couldn’t have performed much worse at the offensive end of the floor; their 52-point total was one of their worst showings of the season… and they still won. Syracuse figures to shoot the ball better in this game than it did in its previous tussle with Louisville. The Orange will also be playing this game on Senior Day in their home-court finale. That extra measure of emotion should give the Orange the “juice” they need to power past the stubborn Cardinals, who should give them a game… but ultimately fall short.

Who Will Win

It’s Syracuse’s game to lose. Louisville does not have the shooters needed to outscore the Cuse. The Orange won’t land knockout punches in this game, but they should be able to scratch out a hard-fought six-point victory on their home court.
