Duke Virginia Tech Betting Tips – Duke Aims To Stay In The Hunt For A Top Seed

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/19/2013 5:56:41 PM

The Duke Blue Devils are one of the top contenders for a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA tournament. They will need to avoid a bad loss to Virginia Tech in order to reach their goal.

Duke Blue Devils @ Virginia Tech Hokies – Thursday, February 21
Betting line: No line

Why Duke Will Win

Even mma betting experts know that the Blue Devils, despite the issues they've had to deal with in recent weeks, still outclass Virginia Tech. Yes, Duke might still be without forward Ryan Kelly for this game, but even with that missing piece being unavailable for action, the Blue Devils should still be able to handle the Hokies. Virginia Tech has resided in the bottom tier of the ACC throughout the season.

A depleted roster has not been able to find the stamina, resolve, consistency, or concentration that are needed to stay in the thick of the ACC title hunt and, on a larger level, the national chase for an at-large NCAA tournament berth. Virginia Tech's only two ACC wins to this point in the season have come against Georgia Tech and Wake Forest. The Hokies have won only once at home in the ACC, so it's not as though their building, Cassell Coliseum, is particularly intimidating.

Virginia Tech's team is so conspicuously limited, too. Erick Green is the only player on the team who averages more than 13 points per game. The Hokies just don't have many answers in the paint, and they don't have a lot of depth, either. Missing the NCAA tournament in 2011, when they had a resume that should have gotten them into the field of 68, really set back the Virginia Tech program.

The Hokies never seemed to recover from the event. Their recruiting has tailed off, and they're groping for answers at this point. They're not finding any hope, and Duke – which is balanced and far more skilled – should be able to win this game comfortably.

Why Virginia Tech Will Win

No bet on this game should ignore the reality that Duke is a really good team, but one has to be very realistic when appraising the Blue Devils as well. This is not an overwhelming team, a group that is devastatingly effective from week to week. Duke, in a weak Atlantic Coast Conference, has not been able to take control of the league.

Miami has done that instead. Duke got crushed by the Hurricanes in head-to-head competition, and it lost at a North Carolina State team that has been much less impressive than preseason polls suggested. What has to give Virginia Tech a lot of hope in this game is that Duke barely beat one of the worst teams in the ACC, Boston College, on the road. Football betting experts with little college basketball knowledge need to be informed that Duke needed stops on each of its last four defensive sequences to beat the Eagles, 62-61. If Duke can struggle at Boston College, it can struggle at Virginia Tech.

Who Will Win

This is going to be a romp. Virginia Tech has one great player, Erick Green, who averages just over 25 points per game, but Green has absolutely no help and will be unable to do much of anything about his team's inferiority when compared to Duke. The Blue Devils will roll.
