The Georgia Bulldogs and the George Washington Colonials need a pick-me-up before they venture into conference play. Opportunities are running out for each of these teams.

Why George Washington Will Win

When NCAA football betting gurus turn from football and move to basketball as their college sports point of focus, they will notice that Georgia has simply been abysmal to this point in the season. The Bulldogs, under coach Mark Fox, are legitimately floundering. Fox made one NCAA tournament appearance in 2011, but that's been his only bit of good work in Athens, Ga. In his other seasons, Fox has not been able to find answers for his team's woes, and this year, it appears that the Bulldogs are worse than they've ever been under Fox.

Georgia simply can't hit the side of a barn. The Bulldogs scored only 56 points in a home-court loss to Youngstown State. They scored only 60 points against Southern Mississippi. They scored only 53 points against an Indiana team that is a scoring juggernaut but a very inconsistent defensive group. Georgia scored only 56 points against a UCLA team that has been well below average on defense this season, as shown in the Bruins' no-defense win over Missouri this past Friday night. Georgia scored just 53 points against South Florida and 54 in a loss to a not-very-distinguished Georgia Tech side. Even in wins over Mercer and East Tennessee State, Georgia failed to score 60 points. There are very few competent shooters on this team, and that's why Georgia – against a not-very-challenging schedule – is 5-7 before the start of SEC competition. George Washington should definitely be able to defend the Bulldogs and walk out of the Peach State with a victory.

Why Georgia Will Win

Legal online sports betting analysts are fairly convinced that this will be a close game, primarily because George Washington just isn't a quality team in its own right. The Colonials haven't played Indiana as Georgia has. Their schedule is probably a bit weaker than the one Georgia has played. Yet, GW is only 6-6 on the season. The Colonials also lost to Youngstown State, just like Georgia. They endured bad losses to Mount Saint Mary's, Bradley, and Rutgers. George Washington's wins have come against a lot of bottom feeders. Georgia can at least tout some wins over power-conference teams such as Southern California.

What's going to hurt George Washington in this game is its combination of awful three-point shooting and poor ballhandling. The Colonials hit just 29.3 percent of their threes, which puts them 13th in the 16-member Atlantic 10 Conference. The Colonials also commit almost 17 turnovers per game, giving them a negative assist-to-turnover ratio (the team racks up under 15 assists per contest). You can't have those kinds of numbers and win on the road.

Who Will Win

This is a dead-even game between two mediocre teams. George Washington leads the Atlantic 10 in rebounds per game and is third in rebounding percentage. That pair of stats suggests that the Colonials will get key rebounds late in the game, which will probably make the difference. Pick George Washington here.
