How To Bet On Michigan Penn State – Wolverines Try To Find Their Form Against Penn State

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/25/2013 6:07:06 PM

The Michigan Wolverines have struggled over the past few weeks, but they gained a week off after a particularly brutal stretch. They will try to play a complete game against Penn State.

Michigan Wolverines @ Penn State Nittany Lions – Wednesday, February 27
Betting line: No line

Why Michigan Will Win

Legal online sports betting analysts will favor Michigan for these reasons: First, the Wolverines are simply a much better team than Penn State is. Michigan is currently in line for a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament, while Penn State is winless in the Big Ten and very possibly headed for an 0-18 season in the conference (not including a first-round loss in the Big Ten Conference Tournament, which would produce an 0-19 record against league foes this season).

The Wolverines aren't just better, though; they've gotten a measure of rest, which they sorely needed after a brutal stretch in which they played four straight games against powerful opponents: Indiana, Ohio State, Wisconsin, and Michigan State. Three of those four games were on the road, and quite understandably, Michigan lost those battles. The loss at Wisconsin was painful because Michigan grabbed a lead with 2.4 seconds left, only to see the Badgers' Ben Brust throw in a 43-foot fling at the buzzer to tie the score and send the game into overtime.

Michigan fell apart in its 23-point loss at Michigan State on Feb. 12, disheartened by the setback at Wisconsin. Otherwise, though, this team really hasn't played that poorly. Its record is more a product of its opponents than anything else. Getting a week off in the middle of the Big Ten season is exactly what this team needed. It resumed play on Feb. 24 against Illinois and should have the right balance of rest and rhythm in this contest against Penn State, which should not be able to hold up under pressure.

Why Penn State Will Win

When NCAA football betting gurus put aside the pigskin and turn to college basketball, they will be inclined to take Michigan, but they're going to have to give Penn State a legitimate chance of winning here, far more than they might ever have expected or anticipated a month ago, when Michigan stood at the top of the Big Ten standings.

On Feb. 17, Penn State stayed with Michigan for the full 40 minutes on the road in Ann Arbor, Mich., losing by a modest 79-71 margin. The Nittany Lions played with more energy than the listless Wolverines, exploiting Michigan's defense and making above-average plays to keep the proceedings interesting until the final minute of regulation. Moreover, if Michigan's Glenn Robinson III hadn't played one of his best games of the season (he's been rather poor on a week-to-week basis), the Wolverines very possibly would have lost to PSU. You can say that Michigan was mentally fatigued and not very confident in that game, but the fact is that Penn State was still very competitive on the road and never really folded. If Penn State can play the same kind of game at home, it can definitely win.

Who Will Win

It is hard to see Michigan playing poorly on two straight occasions against Penn State. The Wolverines went through the motions in the first meeting. One would have to think that they'll bring a much more focused performance to the court this time around, and Penn State won't have any answers.
