How To Bet On Wake Forest Duke – Wake Forest Aims For Upset Of No. 1 Duke

Posted by Washington Tucker on 1/3/2013 5:49:52 PM

The Wake Forest Demon Deacons just knocked off the Xavier Musketeers. They will now try to beat an even more formidable foe, the Duke Blue Devils, as ACC action begins in 2013.

Wake Forest Demon Deacons @ Duke Blue Devils – Saturday, January 5
Betting line: No line

Why Wake Forest Will Win

No bet on this game should ignore the reality that Duke is showing signs of slippage that, while slight, are still real. Football betting experts with little college basketball knowledge need to be informed that Duke gave up 77 points to Santa Clara – hardly an elite team in the larger realm of college basketball – this past Saturday, allowing multiple extended scoring runs to the Broncos and having to sweat until the middle portion of the second half. Duke was flat and unresponsive for extended portions of this game, leading a number of basketball pundits to wonder if the Blue Devils had overextended themselves in November and December, only to spill too much of their fuel tank before the arrival of ACC play.

It has happened before and is therefore not a novel development: Duke has put forth a remarkable amount of effort in the first months of a season, only to run on fumes in late February and especially the month of March. Duke's scouting and preparedness would translate into wins in the early part of the season against high-quality, brand-name opposition, but with the deterioration of legs and the loss of maximum leaping ability, the Blue Devils would normally wither on the vine in March. If Wake Forest can play the way Santa Clara did and, more importantly, shoot the way Santa Clara did, it can create a 10-minute game out of this 40-minute cloth. It can shorten a game to a considerable extent and thereby put itself in position to pull off the massive upset.

Why Duke Will Win

Even mma betting experts know that Wake Forest just isn't what it used to be. The Demon Deacons made the NCAA tournament in 2010, but over the past two seasons, they've been terrible. Head coach Jeff Bzdelik has been a disaster in Winston-Salem, N.C., winning a combined total of 21 games in the 2010-2011 and 2011-2012 seasons. If you're winning a total of 21 games over the course of two full seasons, you're definitely losing more than you win. Indeed, Wake's 21 wins in that two-season span are accompanied by 42 losses. That's right: Wake was 21-42 in a two-season span just before the beginning of the 2012-2013 campaign. The Deacons are last in the 12-team Atlantic Coast Conference in field goal percentage defense, two-point field goal defense, rebounds per game, and rebounding percentage. This is a team that can be bullied inside, and Duke is in position to pounce.

Who Will Win

This is going to be a romp. Wake Forest beat Xavier this past Wednesday not because it is so good, but because Xavier is suffering through a really bad season. Duke, playing at home in Cameron Indoor Stadium, will be motivated in its Atlantic Coast Conference opener. This is not the time to pick a Wake Forest upset.
