Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds – Wildcats celebrate No.1 spot with romp at South Carolina

NCAA Basketball Odds: Pick Kentucky

Kentucky is rising up the online betting ranks, and they could be the March Madness betting favorites at this point because of their stunning array of talent. The Wildcats, the lone undefeated team in the country, will travel to South Carolina on Tuesday night, and their inside play will carry them past an ailing Gamecocks squad.

WHAT: NCAA basketball betting
WHEN: Tuesday, January 26, 9:00 PM ET
WHERE: Colonial Life Arena, Columbia, SC
KEY STAT: Kentucky is 8-2 in their last 10 games at South Carolina

The Storyline - Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds
The Wildcats (19-0, 4-0) should be the new No.1 team in the nation after Texas lost twice in the last week, while Kentucky is coming off a 31-point thrashing of Arkansas at home on Saturday. The Gamecocks (11-8, 2-3) have dropped three in a row, all by 10 points or less, including a crushing 58-56 last-second defeat at Florida last weekend. South Carolina has won two straight over the Wildcats, but UK is a different place this year under John Calipari.

Offensive Matchups - Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds
Kentucky is an offensive juggernaut, coming in 12th in scoring, sixth in field-goal percentage and 34th in three-point percentage. John Wall could be the No.1 pick in the NBA draft if he decides to leave after his freshman year, while Patrick Patterson and DeMarcus Cousins are forces in the post. The x-factor is Eric Bledsoe, who is also a freshman, but he has scored 10 points or more in his last six starts and he takes a lot of pressure off Wall in the backcourt. Kentucky can get into turnover problems, but it’s a problem you’ll take with all of their talent.

Devan Downey has been playing out of his mind lately, notching 20 points or more in seven of his last eight games for the Gamecocks, who are 59th in the country in points scored. The senior guard would be even more effective if fellow senior Dominique Archie hadn’t injured his knee back in November, as Archie was their main inside threat. A facial injury to forward Mike Holmes hasn’t healed yet, either.

Defensive Matchups - Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds
The Wildcats also play at a frenetic pace on this end of the floor, and the duo of Wall and Bledsoe harass the opposing guards all over the place. Kentucky is seventh in the nation in blocks, led by Cousins, and they’re physical without giving up a lot of fouls, coming in third in rebounding margin. They sometimes have lapses in concentration, but that’s to be expected of a young team.

The Gamecocks aren’t thought of as a threat in your sportsbook due to their poor defense: South Carolina is 200th in points allowed and 201st in field-goal defense. Like Kentucky, the Gamecocks like to gamble as Downey averages over three steals, while Sam Muldrow has over three blocks, but South Carolina doesn’t have the talent to get away with gambling like Kentucky does.

Coaching Matchup - Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds
Kentucky is improving every game under John Calipari, which is saying something because the Wildcats are already pretty good. This could be Calipari’s biggest test, however, as Kansas and Texas have faltered under the pressure of the No.1 ranking. Can he avoid the same problems as his Big 12 counterparts?

Darrin Horn is in his second season at Columbia, but he almost has as many losses already as he did last year in a 10-loss campaign. You have to feel for Horn as injuries have decimated his frontcourt, which is never good when facing a big Kentucky team.

Betting Prediction - Kentucky vs South Carolina Betting Odds
The unbeaten Wildcats should be the favorites in this contest, as they’ve won eight of their last 10 trips to Columbia. They’ll be trying to avoid a three-game losing skid to the Gamecocks, and they should be able to do so through the deadly combo of Patterson and Cousins in the post. South Carolina may have had a chance to defend these two with Archie and Holmes in the lineup, but Muldrow can’t watch them both by himself. Someone will have a field day in the post for the Wildcats.
