March Madness East Bracket Betting – East Bracket Gets Off To Fast Start

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/10/2014 5:10:09 AM

March Madness betting players following the East bracket will have a busy Thursday with six of the eight games falling on the first real day of the NCAA Tournament, and there are going to be a few upsets, so keep a very close eye on this bracket, featuring games in Pittsburgh, Albuquerque and Nasvhille.

Southern Miss vs. Kansas State Betting

The No.8 Wildcats are 5-point favorites as they open Thursday’s action in the East bracket, and this going to be one tough and physical game as the No.9 Golden Eagles like to hit the boards as hard as the Wildcats, who are only five spots ahead of Southern Miss in terms of rebound margin per game. However, Kansas State has a problem with turnovers and that is going to be their downfall in an upset loss to the underdogs from Southern Miss.

Montana vs Wisconsin Betting

The No.4 Badgers are 8.5-point college basketball betting favorites over the No.13 Grizzlies, and Wisconsin is first in the nation in points allowed, but that is partly because of their slow offense which is similar to watching paint dry. Montana is a solid defensive team and they can hit three-pointers, which will allow them to put up some points on the Badgers and they should be a strong consideration for the upset.

UNC-Asheville vs. Syracuse Betting

The top-ranked Orangemen are favored by 17 points against the Bulldogs, who aren’t actually a bad team, but they just ran into a poor matchup. Syracuse’s 2-3 zone is going to cause a few problems for UNC-Asheville, who are fifth in the nation in scoring, and unless they can control the boards against the Orangemen (who don’t rebound as well as they should), it’s going to be a rout. The Bulldogs are also an awful defensive team and Syracuse will have the depth to cruise to a win while covering the spread.

Harvard vs. Vanderbilt Betting

College basketball betting players should be on alert for another upset as the No.5 Commodores are favored by six points against the No.12 Crimson, who like Wisconsin, will play a slower style because they won’t be able to keep up in a shootout. Vanderbilt was ranked early, toppled out of the top 25 and then recovered to win the SEC tournament, so you never know which team you’re going to get. The outright play should be Vanderbilt, but they’re a risky team against the spread.

West Virginia vs. Gonzaga Betting

This is a pick ’em between the No.10 Mountaineers and the No.7 Bulldogs, and both teams are in the top 20 in terms of rebounding margin, so this game could be won on the glass. West Virginia isn’t a particularly talented team, but they’re tough as nails and they have a great coach in Bob Huggins that is probably worth at least one Tournament win. Lean towards West Virginia to snag the upset in Pittsburgh, the home of their biggest rival.

Loyola (MD) vs. Ohio State Betting

The No.2 Buckeyes are favored by 17.5 points and they’ve been a disappointment for college basketball betting players who expected them to roll through the Big Ten, but with their inside-outside game, they have the potential to win the Tournament. Loyola-Maryland needs to come up with their performances of their lives and even then, it would probably just be enough to cover the spread, but take Ohio State, who should come into the Tournament with a chip on their shoulder.

Texas vs. Cincinnati Betting

The No.6 Bearcats are favored by two points against the No.11 Longhorns, who were in real danger of missing out on the Tournament for the first time since 1998, and their key is Canadian point guard Myck Kabongo; when the freshman is on, Texas is usually a very good team. The Bearcats don’t shoot very well (42% from the field, 64.1% at the foul line) and that’s going to come back to bite them against the Longhorns, who will sneak into the second round.

St. Bonaventure vs. Florida State Betting

The No.3 Seminoles are 7-point favorites against the No.14 Bonnies, who are going to pose a problem to Florida State because they hit their free throws at a 76% clip and the Seminoles are a physical team that fouls a lot. But this year’s edition of the Seminoles has a little more offense than in other years and that supplants a defense which is fifth in opposition field-goal percentage. Take the Seminoles to cover in your online betting picks on Friday.
