March Madness South Bracket Betting - Wildcats Will Rule The South

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/10/2014 5:09:00 AM

Mississippi Valley State/Western Kentucky v Kentucky Betting

As March Madness betting experts know, no top seed has ever lost to a No. 16 seed in the history of the NCAA Tournament. Kentucky is the best team in the field. You can do the math. The Wildcats can choose how hard they want to play in this game. The Wildcats could coast, or they could play really hard. They could win by 20 points without even trying.

Connecticut vs. Iowa State Betting

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this 8-9 game in the South Region, you need to choose between the best player on the floor and a team that is tournament-tested. Iowa State has the best player on the floor. Royce White is a “point forward” who distributes the ball well and can take defenders off the dribble. White is muscular and agile, a very hard assignment for any defender. Connecticut will have trouble stopping him. However, on the other side of the coin, it’s worth noting that Connecticut came very close to beating No. 2 Syracuse last week at the Big East Conference Tournament in New York. Coach Jim Calhoun knows how to get his players to perform well at tournament time. That’s likely to be the difference. Take Connecticut in this game.

Virginia Commonwealth vs. Wichita State Betting

The college basketball betting experts who follow the mid-major conferences know that both of these teams are very good. This is a matchup of two teams who could have busted a lot of brackets if they were placed in different regions. Now they’ll have to play each other. Wichita State can play well at a fast tempo or a slow tempo. Virginia Commonwealth needs to play at a fast tempo in order to win. Therefore, pick the team that can play at multiple speeds: Wichita State.

New Mexico State vs. Indiana Betting

There’s reason to pick against Indiana because guard Verdell Jones is out for the rest of the season due to a gruesome injury suffered last Thursday in the first round of the Big Ten Conference Tournament against Penn State. However, New Mexico State is not a particularly imposing team. It does not have the quickness needed to outflank Indiana’s defense. The Aggies needed top-seeded Nevada to lose in the semifinals of the Western Athletic Conference Tournament. Without that lucky event, it’s unlikely that New Mexico State would have been able to win the WAC Tournament in Las Vegas this past weekend and reach the NCAA Tournament. Pick Indiana.

Colorado vs. UNLV Betting

Colorado finished sixth in an alarmingly bad Pac-12 Conference during the regular season, but then stormed to the Pac-12 Tournament championship by winning four games in four days this past weekend in Los Angeles. Will Colorado continue to feed off its momentum, or will reality set in as the University of Nevada-Las Vegas awaits? Colorado’s legs are probably drained, and UNLV has much more tournament experience over the past several years. Take UNLV in this contest.

South Dakota State vs.  Baylor Betting

Two weeks ago, Baylor was laboring and trying to rediscover itself as a team. However, in the past couple of weeks, Baylor has gone from being confused to confident. The Bears regained their edge and swagger at the Big 12 Conference Tournament in Kansas City. A decisive win over Big 12 regular season champion Kansas has renewed the Bears’ outlook. The Jackrabbits have good shooters, but Baylor’s defense is likely to be too much. Take Baylor.

Xavier vs. Notre Dame Betting

Xavier reached the Sweet 16 in both 2009 and 2010 after reaching the Elite Eight in 2008. Moreover, Notre Dame coach Mike Brey has generally stumbled in March Madness. With his second-seeded squad last year, Notre Dame got blasted in the round of 32 by tenth-seeded Florida State. You would think that Notre Dame should be an underdog here. However, Xavier has been very disappointing this season. Guard Tu Holloway, following a much-publicized brawl in a December game against Cincinnati, has not been the elite player he was expected to be when the season began. Take Notre Dame in a razor-close battle.

Lehigh vs. Duke Betting

The Duke Blue Devils are a vulnerable team in this year’s NCAA Tournament because of a weak interior defense and their overreliance on the long ball. However, a round of 64 game against Lehigh will not push Duke that much. There’s a canyon of quality separating these two teams. Take Duke.
