March Madness West Bracket Betting - West Bracket Opens With Good Games

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/10/2014 5:09:42 AM

Online March Madness betting players are gearing up for the NCAA Tournament, with the play-in games starting on Tuesday and carrying over to Wednesday before the round of 64 tips off the real action on Thursday afternoon. Get your snacks and refreshments all sorted out beforehand, and get ready to begin the most exciting four days in the world of sports with 48 games in 96 hours from Thursday to Sunday. Here are the picks for Thursday and Friday’s games out of the West bracket, which takes place in Louisville, Portland, Omaha and Columbus.

Colorado State vs. Murray State Betting

The No.6 Racers of Murray State were the last team to lose a game this season, and they are favored by 3.5 points over the No.11 Rams, who are back in the dance for the first time in nine years. Murray State will also have a distinct crowd advantage as they’re two hours from Nashville, so they get the edge as college basketball betting really gets underway on Thursday.

Davidson vs. Louisville Betting

The No.4 Cardinals won the Big East tournament thanks to a defense that is third in the nation in opposition field-goal percentage. The No.13 Wildcats are 12th in points scored nationally, but they are going to have their hands full with the swarming Louisville full-court press. Stick with the Cardinals outright, although the 7.5-point spread is worrying.

BYU/Iona vs. Marquette Betting

The No.3 Golden Eagles, similarly to their Big East brethren from Louisville, love to get out there and force turnovers to the tune of 8.8 steals per game, good for ninth in the country and they have a big-game player in Darius Johnson-Odom. Tuesday’s play-in game between BYU and Iona, two offensive teams, will be wildly entertaining, but they won’t have anything left for Marquette.

Long Beach State vs. New Mexico Betting

This No.5 New Mexico team should be watched by March Madness betting players throughout the West bracket, and their activity at both ends of the floor helped them the regular-season and conference titles in the Mountain West. The No.12 49ers must have their best offensive performance of the season because defensively, they won’t be able to keep up with New Mexico, who will cover the 4-point spread easily.

Virginia vs. Florida Betting

This could end up being the best first-round game of the West bracket as the No.7 Gators are 3.5-point favorites over the No.10 Cavaliers, and this could be a horrible matchup for Florida, who lead the country in three-point field goals per game and hit them at a 39% clip. Virginia is second in points allowed and 11th in three-point defense, but they just won’t have enough offense to score on the Gators, who should barely cover the college basketball betting spread here.

Norfolk State vs. Missouri Betting

The No.2 Tigers are massive 21.5-point favorites against the No.15 Spartans, who caught fire to win the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, but they may have to go inside against Mizzou, who will slaughter you on the perimeter. Nolfolk State has no other choice than to slow down the pace of the game because if it turns into a shootout, they’re not going to be able to keep up with the Tigers. It’s a big college basketball betting spread, but Missouri should cover it.

Saint Louis vs. Memphis Betting

Many experts are calling the No.8 Tigers a darkhorse to watch throughout this bracket, and they’re both efficient (fifth in field-goal percentage) and tough defensively (10th in field-goal defense). Their glaring weakness is that they foul a lot and the No.9 Billikens hit 71.6% of their free throws. It’s just a matter of whether or not Saint Louis can score enough to cover the 3.5-point spread, and the Tigers’ style will wear them down.

LIU-Brooklyn vs. Michigan State Betting

Finally, the No.1 Spartans are20-point favorites against the Blackbirds, who are up against history as No.16 seed has ever beaten a No.1. LIU-Brooklyn is third in the country in points scored, but Michigan State is 16th in points allowed against a schedule that was obviously tougher out of the Big Ten than anything the Blackbirds faced in the Northeast. However, this game has “backdoor cover” written all over it as the Blackbirds will score enough in garbage time to cover the sports betting spread in this contest.
