Missouri Kansas Betting – Tigers Seek Elusive Quality Road Win And A Big 12 Boost

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/6/2014 1:19:35 AM

The Missouri Tigers have a veteran team that was expected to do big things in 2011. If the Tigers are serious about making a deep run in the NCAA Tournament, they need to beat Kansas.

Why To Bet On Missouri

Super Bowl betting observers will note that in Super Bowl XXXIV, the St. Louis Rams and Tennessee Titans played one of the more geographically intimate Super Bowls of all time. The two cities, St. Louis and Nashville, aren’t very far apart, and the teams played in Atlanta, a relatively short plane flight away. This game is even more intimate, as Missouri and Kansas engage in the rivalry known as the “Border War.” There’s one obvious difference between this college hoops clash and Super Bowl XXXIV: It’s not a neutral-site game. Kansas plays at home. However, the familiarity these two teams enjoy will give Missouri a chance to make some magic. The Tigers lost their first three road games in the Big 12 Conference this season and have clearly become a team that is great at home but shaky when it leaves the Show Me State. This fact will make Missouri and coach Mike Anderson that much more intent on righting the historical record. The Tigers have a lot of upperclassmen on their roster and know what they need to do in order to win in Phog Allen Fieldhouse, one of the toughest venues in the sport. Moreover, Kansas has not played great basketball on its home floor this season, despite losing only one game. The Jayhawks beat USC by only two points at home and nipped UCLA by only one. Kansas was fortunate to beat Nebraska by a three-point margin, and the Jayhawks then lost by 11 to Texas on Jan. 22. Missouri certainly has the ability to beat Kansas in a spotlight game.

Why To Bet On Kansas

The sports betting odds might shift to the Jayhawks in this Big 12 battle for a reason that you might not have expected a few weeks ago. When Kansas saw its 69-game home-court winning streak come to an end on Jan. 22 against Texas, it’s true that an aura of invincibility was dashed in and around the KU program. However, that aura – while real – was also accompanied by an increasing sense of complacency. Kansas coasted on its reputation for much of this season. The awareness that its home arena so frequently saved the day made KU a less combative and energized ballclub. Players seemed to think that the home crowd would rise to the occasion and provide extra inspiration on demand. Kansas didn’t bury opponents when it had the chance; Texas came back from an 18-3 deficit to pull off its 74-63 victory over the Jayhawks. The point of all this is that Kansas used the winning streak as an excuse to save energy instead of hammering opponents into the ground. In KU’s first home game following the Texas loss, the Jayhawks crushed Kansas State, 90-66. It was clear that a team learned its lesson; because of a loss, this team is now stronger.

How The Game Will Play Out

The online betting world has to think that Kansas isn’t going to lose a second home game within a three-week span of time. The Jayhawks received the equivalent of a splash of very cold water when they lost to Texas. They have awakened and are playing with the sense of urgency coach Bill Self wants his team to exhibit in each and every game. Kansas should turn back Missouri because the Jayhawks will be fully focused and mentally refreshed.
