NCAA Basketball Betting – What Games To Watch This Weekend

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/5/2014 2:08:45 AM

Sports betting players should be just getting into the NCAA basketball betting season as there are a number of non-conferences games to check out before the conference portion of the schedule tips off. You’ll also find a number of top-25 teams playing each other, and two of those matchups are among the five to watch on Saturday.

UNLV Louisville Betting – Saturday, 12:00 PM ET

The No.24 Cardinals (7-0) should be favored at home against the No.20 Rebels (9-0), and these two have split four meetings since 2000. Three of these games were decided by five points or less, and two were one-point games. The Cardinals are 3-0 ATS at home, while the Rebels are 2-1 ATS on the road, so this is going to be a hard-fought game that probably won’t be a high-scoring affair as both rank in the top 10 nationally in terms of field-goal defense. Louisville is sixth in the country in scoring, but UNLV will try to slow the game down away from home. The Rebels should come away with the win here as they have the one player on either team who can take over a game, and that is junior guard Chace Stanback. Go with UNLV to pull out the “upset” on the road.

Tennessee Pitt Betting – Saturday, 3:15 PM ET

In the marquee matchup of the weekend, the No.3 Panthers will be favored at home against the No.11 Volunteers, who are 2-0 SU and 1-1 ATS in their only two meetings with Pitt. Tennessee won by three points at home in 1998, and then rolled to a 26-point romp in Pittsburgh the following year. The Volunteers are 1-0 ATS away from home, and the Panthers are 1-3 ATS at home. Tennessee has generally been a good road team under Bruce Pearl, who will be suspended for eight games once the SEC season starts, and the Volunteers would like to build a bit of a cushion before that happens. This game will be won on the boards as Pitt leads the country in rebounding, and Tennessee is 17th. This game should be close, and we’re staying away from the point spread, but take Pitt in a SU bet.

Washington Texas A&M Betting – Saturday, 4:00 PM ET

The No.21 Huskies may be slight NCAA basketball betting favorites on the road in their first trip away from home, and they’ll be facing a Texas A&M team who have already knocked off a ranked team this season (they beat Temple on November 28th). This will be a game of offense (Washington leads the nation in points) against defense (Texas A&M is ninth in scoring defense), and the Aggies will want to slow this game down. These two split a pair of meetings in 2007 and 2009, with the road team winning each time. The Huskies are going to have to deal with the time change, as they’ll be playing much earlier than they’re accustomed to, and we think they’ll get off to a slow start that they won’t be able to come all the way back from. Go with Texas A&M at home.

Indiana Kentucky Betting – Saturday, 5:15 PM ET

The No.17 Wildcats will be favored at home over the Hoosiers, who are 2-3 SU and ATS in their last five meetings with Kentucky, including a 17-point loss at home last year. Indiana hasn’t won in seven trips to Lexington since 1996, and all seven also resulted in ATS losses. Terrence Jones and Brandon Knight are dynamic players, and the Hoosiers are going to have to slow them down. Indiana also has to take better care of the ball, as they rank 291st in the nation in turnovers and that will only fuel the Wildcats’ fast-break opportunities. Indiana’s Christian Watford and Verdell Jones III are dynamic in their own right, but they combine for seven turnovers a game. Take Kentucky at home on Saturday.

Gonzaga Notre Dame Betting – Saturday, 8:30 PM ET

The No.23 Fighting Irish will be home favorites according to NCAA basketball betting odds, and this is their first meeting with Gonzaga, who has been disappointing this season so far. To be fair, though, the Bulldogs have played some very good teams, and two of their losses have come against ranked opponents (Kansas State and Illinois). The Fighting Irish are coming off a loss against Kentucky, and they’ll be looking to make another impression. The duo of Ben Hansbrough and Tim Abromaitis are a great inside-outside combination, but Tyrone Nash is the unsung hero of the team. Gonzaga is just having trouble scoring, outside of Steven Gray. That is the reason Gonzaga should be avoided in your online betting book on Saturday.
