North Carolina State Duke Betting Predictions – Wolfpack And Blue Devils Meet In An ACC Headliner

Posted by Washington Tucker on 2/5/2013 5:55:22 PM

After a couple of losses last week that dropped them further back in the ACC standings, the North Carolina State Wolfpack will look to rebound on the road against the Duke Blue Devils.

North Carolina State Wolfpack @ Duke Blue Devils – Thursday, February 7
Betting line: No line

Why North Carolina State Will Win

Football betting gurus might not know this, but the Wolfpack possess a frontline that gives most of their opponents problems. C.J Leslie and Richard Howell will be a load for almost any other team in the country, and they will pose matchup difficulties for the Blue Devils. Interior play is a facet of competition in which Duke usually has an edge over most of its opposition, but that might not be the case here. In the last meeting between the two teams, Leslie went for 25 points and six rebounds, as Duke had no answer for the talented junior. The Wolfpack are one of the few teams in the country with the offensive firepower to score with the Blue Devils. They have five players averaging double figures in points and a sixth at just under at 9.8 per game. Scott Wood represents one of the best shooters not only in the ACC, but in the country. He can give the Pack a balanced inside-out attack that most defenses struggle to account for.

The Wolfpack are the only team in the ACC that is shooting over 50 percent from the floor, and one of two (Duke) shooting over 40 percent from three-point range. North Carolina State has already shown once that it has the talent to go toe to toe with Duke. Therefore, it’s hard to rule out the chance for another upset. Duke hasn’t looked great without forward Ryan Kelly thus far; Kelly gives Duke a presence the Blue Devils would love to have for the frontcourt battle in this game. Kelly's absence, though, makes NCSU that much more attractive if you want to bet on the Wolfpack here.

Why Duke Will Win

Even mma betting experts who don't ordinarily follow college basketball would be able to look at the 2013 season schedule and conclude that North Carolina State does not handle road games very well. If there’s one thing that can be said about North Carolina State basketball this year it’s that what you see at home is far from what you see on the road. In Raleigh, this team can play with almost any team in the country. Outside of its gym, you’re looking at a very mediocre team that has a bunch of questionable losses. NC State is 1-3 on the road in the ACC with losses to Wake Forest, Virginia, and Maryland. Duke, on the other hand, has been great at home this season, and Mason Plumlee will certainly be motivated to redeem himself after faring poorly in his matchup against C.J Leslie when these teams met a month ago on NCSU's home floor. The Blue Devils bring an offense that averages 78 points per game against a Wolfpack team that has been very mediocre on defense all season.

The Blue Devils have won every home ACC game by double digits and have put together an elite resume with wins over a number of top teams. While many of those came with Kelly, the Blue Devils still possess talent beyond Plumlee in the persons of Seth Curry and Quinn Cook. This talent gives the Blue Devils a number of options to go to.

Who Will Win

North Carolina State is a desperate team which is fading in the ACC race. Given its struggles on the road all season, as well as the fact that it is facing an elite Duke team in one of the toughest road venues in all of college hoops, it’s hard to like the Wolfpack here.
