Northwestern Michigan Betting Predictions – Michigan Looks To Enhance Bid For No. 1 Versus Northwestern

Posted by Washington Tucker on 1/28/2013 6:13:19 PM

The No. 1 ranking in the country has been a revolving door over the past couple of weeks. The Michigan Wolverines have certainly made a strong case that they deserve that spot. Michigan will host the Northwestern Wildcats on Wednesday as they look to improve to 7-1 in the Big Ten and 20-1 overall after putting together three-straight wins. The Wolverines stumbled early in conference play with a tough loss at rivals Ohio State, but have certainly looked like a top-ranked team this sports betting season.

The Wildcats have struggled mightily out of the gate in the Big Ten, with three of their five conference losses against top-25 opponents. One of those defeats was at the hands of Michigan in early January, a 94-66 blowout loss at home in which they trailed by 21 at half and weren’t able to close the gap against the rest of the way.

College Basketball Betting Preview: Northwestern

Slowing down Trey Burke and Tim Hardaway Jr. was a major issue for the Wildcats in that first meeting, as those two combined for 44 points en route to a 28-point victory. Jared Swopshire and Kale Abrahamson each scored 11 points for Northwestern, but the 94 points they conceded was the most they have allowed all season and they were clearly outclassed. A pair of wins over top-25 teams in Illinois and Minnesota has helped the Wildcats’ confidence and they have shown flashes of being a much better team than they looked in that initial loss to Michigan, but they still aren’t ready for a tough online betting test at Ann Arbor just yet.

College Basketball Betting Preview: Michigan

Burke and Hardaway have certainly shown all year that they have what it takes to lead a top-ranked team, and with Glenn Robinson III and Nik Stauskas showing steady improvement of late the Wolverines are a better team now than they were in the initial meeting between these teams. Michigan’s 78.5 points per game is the 12th-best mark in the nation and they rank third in the country in field goal percentage at over 50-percent with Burke, Hardaway, Robinson, and Stauskas each averaging double-digit point totals. Northwestern isn’t expected to provide a very tough test, but with back-to-back games against Indiana and Ohio State coming up it will be important for the Wolverines to keep their momentum going.

College Basketball Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

Undefeated at Ann Arbor this season, Michigan shouldn’t have a problem taking care of business against a Wildcats’ team they dominated the first time around. The Wolverines want to be firing on all cylinders as they get set to travel to Indiana this weekend, so don’t expect them to slow down against an opponent that they clearly have outmatched in every area.
