Ohio State Michigan State Betting - Ohio State Tries To Split Big Ten Championship

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been a very shaky road team this season in the Big Ten Conference. Yet, they can share the league title if they win at Michigan State on Sunday.

Why Ohio State Will Win

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, it’s worth mentioning that while Michigan State has already clinched a share of the Big Ten regular season championship, the Spartans are not as formidable as some of their Final Four teams from the recent past. Michigan State’s one superstar player is Draymond Green, the best player in the Big Ten. There’s no question that Green brings so many dimensions to Michigan State and has carried the Spartans far higher than a lot of hoops pundits ever felt possible. However, the Spartans are also limited. They don’t have a reliable second scorer.

Their other low-post players do not have particularly good hands. Their wings don’t shoot very well, making this a relatively easy team to guard. Ohio State did not have a hard time defending Michigan State a few weeks ago in these teams’ first matchup of the 2012 season. The Buckeyes lost this game at the offensive end of the floor, failing to take good shots or drive the ball to the basket against Michigan State’s defense. If Ohio State regularly dumps the ball inside to big man Jared Sullinger, it should enjoy a lot of success in this contest.

Why Michigan State Will Win

The college basketball betting experts who follow the Big Ten Conference for a living know that Ohio State just isn’t getting the job done on the road this season. OSU has had a front-loaded home schedule and few challenging road contests to this point in the 2012 campaign. The Buckeyes won at Iowa and Nebraska – two of the worst teams in the league – but have lost to the better teams in the league in road games, chiefly Michigan and Indiana. Michigan State looked awful this past Tuesday, losing to Indiana by a decisive margin away from home, but the Spartans have still achieved a lot more than most basketball observers ever thought they could in 2012.

This is a squad that has easily – and considerably – surpassed expectations because of its relentless work ethic and terrific team chemistry, two ingredients that did not exist on last year’s team, which bickered and squabbled its way to a tenuous No. 10 seed in the NCAA Tournament and a loss to UCLA in the first round. This Michigan State team simply “gets it,” and head coach Tom Izzo – the second-best coach of his generation behind Duke’s Mike Krzyzewski – is the foremost reason why. It’s hard to pick against Izzo in a game like this because Michigan State wants to lock down the outright Big Ten championship, denying Ohio State a split.

Who Will Win

Ohio State has been inconsistent for much of the past month. However, a few weeks ago, it seemed that the Buckeyes were getting tired and merely waiting for the NCAA Tournament to start. Now, it seems as though Ohio State is lacking focus and commitment, a much more worrisome sign in the early days of March. Michigan State doesn't have a more skilled collection of players, but it does have a lot more discipline and confidence. Take Michigan State at home.
