Wisconsin Badgers vs. Syracuse Orange – Thursday, March 22

As sports betting experts know, Syracuse is without center Fab Melo for the entire NCAA tournament. In their first two games, the Orange were able to get by for different reasons. In game one, UNC-Asheville was not able to contend with Syracuse’s size near the basket. Asheville ran out of steam and made some poor decisions down the stretch because of mental and physical fatigue. In game two this past Saturday, the Kansas State Wildcats were not able to hit enough perimeter shots to unsettle Syracuse’s 2-3 zone defense under head coach Jim Boeheim. Syracuse played opponents who were uniquely unable to take advantage of the Orange’s weaknesses.

Wisconsin is a better and tougher team than either Asheville or Kansas State. The Badgers play better defense, and they take fewer possessions off at both ends of the floor. Wisconsin is not a gifted shooting team, but it has players who are more capable of hitting long shots than anyone on Kansas State’s roster. Moreover, certain Wisconsin players – Ryan Evans in particular – are shooting the ball well and in rhythm. If Wisconsin can shoot at least 40 percent without committing 10 turnovers, it will have a good chance to chase down rebounds due to Melo’s absence.

Will Wisconsin shoot 40 percent? Probably not. Will it commit fewer than 10 turnovers? Quite possibly. Those split answers suggest a very, very close game. In a contest that will be decided by no more than four points either way, take Wisconsin due to the Badgers’ discipline on defense in late-game situations. Syracuse will probably hold Wisconsin to under 55 points. Wisconsin will probably hold Syracuse to 50, give or take one basket.

College Basketball Betting Pick: Wisconsin

Cincinnati Bearcats vs. Ohio State Buckeyes – Thursday, March 15

When you do your homework and assess your sports bet on this game, college basketball betting experts will tell you that Ohio State is simply a more skilled version of Cincinnati. Both of these teams like to play rough-and-tumble defense. Cincinnati is coming off a bruising round of 32 victory against Florida State in which players literally knocked heads on a number of wild open-court plays. The Bearcats play a punishing style, thanks to a level of intensity that had not been in evidence throughout the entirety of the season, but has certainly been on display over the past month. Ohio State, though, is a team that loves to play hardball at all spots on the floor. Ohio State guard Aaron Craft is the best defensive guard in the United States, and he will choke off passing lanes when Cincinnati has the ball. Ohio State big man Jared Sullinger and Cincinnati big man Yancy Gates will probably cancel each other out in the low post, but Ohio State also has DeShaun Thomas and Evan Ravenel to attack the glass and provide low-post defensive help. Cincinnati can’t throw as many bodies at the Buckeyes. Ohio State will grind down Cincinnati and get just enough offense to prevail in what will be a true slugfest in Boston.

College Basketball Betting Pick: Ohio State
