Conference Championships Will Be Decided This Weekend In College Football

Posted by Blake Frazier on 12/3/2014 7:22:10 PM

In college football, there’s nothing quite like the pressure of conference championship games. A full season comes down to four hours on one night. How will the various teams respond?

Pac-12 Championship Game:

Arizona Wildcats vs. Oregon Ducks (In San Francisco) – Friday, December 5

This is a rematch of a game played earlier in the season, on October 2 in Eugene, Oregon. Arizona beat Oregon, 31-24. The Wildcats outgained the Ducks in that game. They outrushed them as well. Arizona scored 21 points in the third quarter and was able to finish drives a lot better. Oregon committed two turnovers, a key point since the Ducks committed three turnovers when they lost to Arizona in the 2013 season.

What is different about this game compared to two months ago is that Oregon is much healthier along its offensive front. The Ducks had most of their offensive line out due to injury two months ago. Now, Jake Fisher and the rest of Oregon’s linemen are ready to go. This should help the Ducks score a lot more than the 24 points they managed against the Wildcats in October. Oregon should win the game. Arizona, though, is a good team which should be able to keep this game reasonably close, at least no more than 10 points.

College Football Betting Pick: Arizona +13.5

ACC Championship Game:

Florida State Seminoles vs. Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (In Charlotte)

– Saturday, December 6

When you look at this game, it’s one that could be troublesome for Florida State. However, Seminole quarterback Jameis Winston is one of the most proven crunch-time players in all of college football. He might throw a lot of interceptions, but he always comes through in the fourth quarter – or perhaps, in light of last week’s game against Florida, he doesn’t make the huge mistake in the fourth quarter that leads to a loss. If you are betting on this game, which team would you trust to make the key play in the fourth quarter, provided that the game is still close? Florida State should be the answer.

College Football Betting Pick: Florida State -4

Big Ten Championship Game:

Wisconsin Badgers vs. Ohio State Buckeyes (In Indianapolis) – Saturday, December 6

This is a game that has taken on a very different identity and feel relative to a few weeks ago. Ohio State starting quarterback J.T. Barrett got knocked out of the Buckeyes’ lineup thanks to an injury suffered this past Saturday against Michigan. Barrett will not be available for this game, and since Braxton Miller was out for the season when Barrett replaced him in late August, Ohio State must turn to third-stringer Cardale Jones for this game. Wisconsin should be able to contain Jones, and since the Badgers have Heisman Trophy candidate Melvin Gordon (over 2,200 yards this season) on their roster, they should be able to score enough to win.

College Football Betting Pick: Wisconsin -4

Kansas State Wildcats @ Baylor Bears – Saturday, December 6

Baylor is playing for the Big 12 title and a spot in the College Football Playoff. The Kansas State Wildcats can only win the Big 12 if TCU loses earlier Saturday to Iowa State. That’s probably not going to happen. Baylor should be the more motivated team. Playing at home, the Bears should be able to win this game, maybe even comfortably.

College Football Betting Pick: Baylor (no line posted – Baylor straight up)
