The Alabama Crimson Tide and Tennessee Volunteers usually stage their revered rivalry in the afternoon, but this year, the two SEC betting foes clash under the lights in Tennessee.

NCAA football betting: Alabama Crimson Tide @ Tennessee Volunteers

Online Betting Odds: Alabama -16.5

Why To Bet On Alabama

Tennessee is simply a very bad football team. The Vols almost lost at home to lowly Alabama-Birmingham earlier in the year. The Vols also allowed 31 points to a Florida Gators offense that is clearly one of the very worst in the SEC, if not college football at large. Tennessee quarterback Matt Simms has struggled through a miserable season, failing to do absolutely anything of consequence against an FBS opponent. Tennessee crushed FCS-based Tennessee-Martin in the season opener, but coach Derek Dooley's offense hasn't scored more than 17 points in four of its five games against FBS teams. Even though rivalry games have been known to create many upsets in college football, this would appear to be a mismatch. Alabama has the better quarterback, the better running backs, the better wide receivers, and the better offensive line in this game. Tennessee's margin for error is virtually zero, and an Alabama team that seemed to lack focus against Ole Miss should be revived and awake for this spirited showdown against a despised adversary. Alabama should not suffer any sort of letdown in this game.

Why To Bet On Tennessee

The Crimson Tide didn't play extremely well last weekend against Ole Miss, laboring their way to a sloppy 23-10 win in front of an uneasy home crowd. Alabama certainly looked like a team that was a bit hung-over with depression after losing to the South Carolina Gamecocks on Oct. 9. The youth on the defensive side of the ball is still apparent in the Alabama camp, and the offensive line – which should be mashing opponents – has not been able to make the Tide one of the top three rushing teams in the Southeastern Conference. Alabama hasn't risen to that level in 2010.

This is one of the most intense and traditional college football rivalry games in the Southern United States. Alabama and Tennessee fans hate each other (and their teams) with a passion. This game has historically been played in the afternoon, but this year, it will be staged at night in Knoxville's Neyland Stadium. The Volunteers don't have much of an offense, but they are rested after a bye week and they definitely have a chance to contain the Alabama running game and keep things close into the fourth quarter. If the Vols can get a few high-impact turnovers and special-team plays to flip the scoreboard in their direction, they could upset Alabama. After all, nobody gave Tennessee a chance to upset Alabama last year in Tuscaloosa, and yet the Vols came closer than anyone else to upending the eventual national champions, losing 12-10 when a game-winning field goal attempt was blocked on the final play of regulation. If Tennessee plays with the same toughness and gets just a few extra plays at home, who knows what can or will happen?

How The Game Will Play Out

Alabama will put the "roll" in "Roll Tide." Tennessee just can't match up with Alabama up front or at the skill positions. The Tide are too balanced and too physical for the Vols at every position on the field. Tennessee will hang around for a half but get blown away after halftime. Take Alabama minus the points in this one.
