The SEC Has The Biggest Primetime Game In Week 10, But The Pac-12 Has More Games

Posted by Blake Frazier on 10/28/2014 10:27:47 PM

In college football, the SEC is king, but the Pac-12 currently has a very balanced profile, one that will create a lot of interesting night games on television. There’s something for everyone.

Auburn Tigers @ Ole Miss Rebels – Saturday, November 1

This is the first of several very big games in the SEC West from now until the end of the season. Auburn, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Alabama are going to be playing each other in various combinations over the next month. Auburn and Ole Miss get things started, with the main battle being Auburn’s celebrated offense and Ole Miss’ publicized defense. That’s the matchup most fans are going to point to as the thing to watch. However, don’t discount the importance of the other main chess match, the one between Ole Miss’ struggling offense and an Auburn defense that was torched last week by an inconsistent South Carolina offense. These teams feel like an even match for each other. They’re playing well on one side of the line of scrimmage but not the other. What could tip the scales in this game is that Ole Miss linebacker Denzel Nkemdiche is out for the rest of the season after suffering an injury in this past Saturday’s game against LSU. That should give Auburn just enough of an advantage to break through and win on the road.

College Football Betting Pick: Auburn +2.5

Stanford Cardinal @ Oregon Ducks – Saturday, November 1

When Oregon quarterback and Heisman Trophy candidate Marcus Mariota plays, he’s generally excellent. However, when he goes up against the defense of the Stanford Cardinal, he plays far worse. Mariota has struggled to solve Stanford, a constant puzzle during his otherwise spectacular career. This game means everything to Mariota and Oregon for the Heisman Trophy and, more centrally, for the Pac-12 North title plus a chance at the College Football Playoff. Oregon will be motivated, and it will be playing at home. Those two factors should enable the Ducks to win the game outright. However, Stanford’s defense remains too tough and too sound for Oregon to be able to blow out the Cardinal. This game will be close, and Stanford should cover the number.

College Football Betting Pick: Stanford +9

Arizona Wildcats @ UCLA Bruins – Saturday, November 1

This is a very unpredictable game between unpredictable teams. Arizona won at Oregon but needed a Hail Mary to beat California at home. The Wildcats are just beginning to face a series of tough teams in the Pac-12 South, and UCLA is coming off a pair of very unsteady road wins, having beaten California and Colorado by fewer than four points in each game. No matter what you might think about the winner of this game (and this game could find just about any possible result), the best probability is that this will be close heading into the final minutes. UCLA doesn’t seem strong enough to pull away, and Arizona doesn’t seem good enough to build a big lead in the first three quarters. UCLA will probably win, but Arizona will likely cover.

College Football Betting Pick: Arizona +6.5

Utah Utes @ Arizona State Sun Devils – Saturday, November 1

The Utah Utes are flying high after beating USC to stay in the chase in the Pac-12 South, but this road game will be a problem. Arizona State has beaten Stanford at home and Washington on the road, and the Sun Devils have Taylor Kelly back at quarterback. This is a tough situation for the Utes, and Arizona State – having won the Pac-12 South last season – is likely to play well. Take Arizona State here.

College Football Betting Pick: Arizona State -5.5
