Baylor Texas Betting Tips – Baylor Looks To Break Out Of Skid Against Struggling Longhorns

Posted by Blake Frazier on 10/18/2012 6:54:27 PM

After a promising start to their 2012 season, the Baylor Bears have dropped consecutive games to open the Big 12 portion of their schedule, following up a loss at West Virginia with another defeat at home against TCU this past week. The schedule isn’t about to get any easier for the Bears either, with back-to-back games against the No. 25 Texas Longhorns and No. 24 Iowa State Cyclones. Baylor has won each of its last two games against Texas, but has never won three-straight in this betting series.

The Longhorns have had their own share of struggles to deal with the past couple of weeks, following up a loss to West Virginia by getting blown away by the No. 13 Oklahoma Sooners in the latest installment of the Red River Rivalry. Texas was beaten up on both sides of the ball over the past two weeks, and it will be interesting to see if they can bounce back in time for this contest.

The Bears have more than just managed the transition following the departure of Heisman trophy winner Robert Griffin III, as senior quarterback Nick Florence has led the nation’s top-ranked passing attack with an average 398.4 yards per game through the air. Florence’s 18 touchdowns are also impressive, but he will need to do a better job of protecting the football after throwing nine interceptions through the first six weeks. Seven turnovers has been the difference in consecutive losses, as Baylor has recorded a plus-six turnover margin in its four wins. The Bears don’t have the defensive talent to make up for any mistakes on offense, which led the way with more than 500 total yards in 10-straight games before their loss to TCU last week.

Outgained by 388 yards in a 63-21 loss to Oklahoma wasn’t exactly what head coach Mack Brown had in mind for the latest installment of the Red River Rivalry, and an injury to quarterback David Ash could be only part of the fallout from last week’s loss. The Longhorns’ 10th-ranked scoring offense hit a wall against the Sooners, and bouncing back won’t be easy if Brown is forced to turn to junior Case McCoy this week. Texas will likely lean a little more on its ground game with Joe Bergeron and Johnathan Gray each averaging more than four yards per carry, and that could be the right decision as it will help keep the Baylor offense off the field.

College Football Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

Considering the beating that Texas has taken these past couple of weeks, it is hard to imagine them bouncing back for a double-digit win against an opponent that has taken the past two games in this series and went score for score with West Virginia just two weeks ago. Whether or not the Longhorns even have enough left in the tank without Ash to keep up with the Baylor offense will be among the keys to this game, and in a situation like this it simply makes too much sense to take the online sports betting points.
