2009 Mississippi State Bulldogs Betting Recap

College football betting fans saw what turned out to be an interesting year for the Bulldogs in 2009. Dan Mullen left Florida to take over the program and there were some positive results early on. The win at Vanderbilt was nice, a near upset of LSU was encouraging, and hanging with Houston and Florida inspired fans.

Reality set in the hard way, though, when they took beatings at the hands of Alabama and Arkansas late in the year. Even so, things ended on a good note when sports betting fans saw them win the Egg Bowl 41-27 over rival Ole Miss.

The offense was decent all year long but the quarterbacking was less than stellar. The entire unit was predicated on the legs of running back Anthony Dixon and offense times when the offense did have to pass, they’d shoot themselves in the foot with a bad mistake or a turnover.

On defense, the Bulldogs lacked bite. They seemed to start the season alright be progressively regressed the rest of the way.

The honeymoon is over in Starkville and Mullen will need to produce more win in 2010 to show that his program is still heading in the right direction.

2010 Preview To Bet Mississippi State Bulldogs

The bad news for the Bulldogs is that the defense lost their star in linebacker Jamar Chaney. The good news is they are chalk full of all sorts of other quality, budding stars ready to step up and make this a quality SEC unit.

New defensive coordinator, Manny Diaz, has cultivated plenty of aggression and this unit will have more talent and more grit than last season.

On offense, the Bulldogs will have to replace Dixon, which is a big chore. Robert Elliott and Montrell Corner are in the mix to replace him and there appears to be a good stable. The question is can one horse step up and shoulder the bulk of the work?

The offense had some pop last year thanks to Dixon but many online betting sharps are wondering if they can score like they did last year. Chris Relf and Tyler Russell will both play quarterback this year, which really means that neither is good enough to start full-time.

Wide receiver is a concern as well as there is a lack of depth there.

Mullen is an offensive mind and if he can make-do with this offense and produce like they did last year, then this program will really be on the rise. The defense is growing quickly and the offense just has to match them.

An easy schedule suggests the Bulldogs first bowl appearance since 2007 but there are plenty of doubters all the way around wondering if they can truly win six games.
