Betting Predictions For TCU Texas – Texas Battles TCU In Thanksgiving Day Showdown

Posted by Blake Frazier on 11/20/2012 5:23:02 PM

After more than 100 years, the Texas Longhorns won’t finish their season against the Texas A&M Aggies. Instead, the No. 13 Longhorns will clash with a TCU Horned Frogs’ team that has overcome a ton of adversity this season just to remain above .500 on the sports betting season. Texas has won four-straight since back-to-back losses to West Virginia and Oklahoma, and while some players admittedly miss the intensity of their long-standing rivalry with the Aggies, a win over TCU on Thanksgiving Thursday will be just as sweet. In fact, the Longhorns could still play Texas A&M in a Bowl game, so perhaps the rivalry could have one last stand after all.

The Horned Frogs’ first Big 12 season hasn’t gone according to plan, but the program has shown resiliency all the way through a rough debut year. The loss of quarterback Casey Pachall signaled the end of TCU’s conference title hopes for year one, but they did upset West Virginia in double overtime just two weeks ago.

Freshman quarterback Trevone Boykin looked good against the Mountaineers, throwing for 254 yards and two touchdowns to outduel Geno Smith in that victory. However, there aren’t many defenses in the nation as bad as West Virginia’s, and Boykin managed just 164 yards in its loss to Kansas State two weeks ago. The Horned Frogs will have had two weeks to prepare for Texas, and will need to find ways to put the ball in the endzone. The TCU defense hasn’t been very good either with an average of 38.3 points allowed while losing three of its last four sportsbook games overall.

College Football Betting Preview: Texas

The Longhorns are averaging close to that with 39.6 points per game this season, and their only home loss of the year came against the Oklahoma Sooners back in mid-October. Texas has scored at least 31 points in three of four since, and they still have an outside chance in the Big 12 with a trip to Kansas State for their season finale. Sophomore quarterback David Ash threw for a season-high 364 yards and two touchdowns in last week’s blowout win over Iowa State, and the fact that the Longhorns have not turned he ball over in consecutive victories has certainly helped their defense.

College Football Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

While the rivalry with Texas A&M may be done, TCU is one of he Longhorns’ oldest rivals dating back to the Southwest Conference including 82 total meetings, which makes this the fifth-most played series in Texas history. The sole focus for the Longhorns come game time will be to earn the victory regardless of who they are playing, as another win will keep them in contention for a bowl game as well as in the overall Big 12 standings.
