Florida State Seminoles Betting Predictions – Can A Proud Program Finally Deliver The Goods?

Offense

For anyone who pays serious attention to NCAA football betting, the primary question with Florida State concerns the team's offense, which brings back six starters this season. The return of quarterback E.J. Manuel gives Florida State one more chance to max out on offense. Manuel is an able and experienced athlete. The problem is that he has been an injury magnet in his career. If he can last a full season, the Seminoles' chances of winning will clearly improve. Yet, ball security remained an issue for Florida State for most of 2011. This team has somehow found ways to lose games it should have won. Game management has also been a bugaboo for this offense at times. Maturity is really the buzzword for the Seminoles on this side of the ball. This team will need to be smart because it doesn't seem to have a fully loaded offense. A lot of things will have to go right for this offense to realize its potential (or even come close to doing so).

Grade: B-

Defense

The best reason to bet big on a successful Florida State season comes on the defensive side of the ball, but that doesn't necessarily mean that this will be an airtight group impervious to opposing offenses, especially those in the top tier of the Atlantic Coast Conference. Plenty of recruiting experts think that Fisher has recruited a lot of high-quality depth, beefing up the FSU program especially on the defensive side of the ball. Many people who cover the sport for a living feel that the Seminoles now have a lot of bodies they can rotate in and out of the lineup on the defensive line. Florida State is not likely to get overpowered at the line of scrimmage; the front seven appears too formidable to be broken down at the point of attack. The worry for this defense is the passing game, which will get tested by Clemson's spread offense. This defense will be solid, but will it be airtight when needed? That's a hard question to answer.

Grade: A-

Special Teams

Various online sports books know that while Florida State's kicking game isn't as bad as it was 20 years ago, the Seminoles still have moments of frailty on special teams. One thing that's going to hurt Florida State is that kick returner Greg Reid is not going to be on the team this season. He was kicked off, and that's going to make field position worse for FSU this fall.

Grade: C+

Prediction

The Seminoles could win the ACC Atlantic Division, but Clemson has earned the trust of bettors to a greater extent. Florida State will finish second in the Atlantic, and that would be a failure for this team.
