Georgia Tech Clemson Betting Predictions – Yellow Jackets Face A Crisis Point Against Tigers

Posted by Blake Frazier on 10/2/2012 6:42:57 PM

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets are in free-fall at the moment. They will try to arrest their slide against the team they upset last season, the Clemson Tigers. This will be a fascinating tilt.

Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets @ Clemson Tigers – Saturday, October 6
Sport betting line: No line

Why Georgia Tech Will Win

This Atlantic Coast Conference matchup surprised a number of people last season in much the same way that river cards surprise onlookers at any of several online casino games, and Georgia Tech will want to cause a stir yet again in 2012.

In 2011, Clemson was riding high while Georgia Tech was coming off a nasty two-game losing streak to Virginia and Miami. The two schools met in Atlanta with Clemson looking like an elite team in the college football world. However, Georgia Tech ambushed the Tigers with its triple-option offense, which the Tigers did not have more than a week to prepare for. It is said in many college football circles that the triple option requires at least two weeks of preparation, and Clemson could have used that extra week last season; it didn't get it, however, and Clemson won't have it this year, either.

Georgia Tech is certainly reeling after two straight home-field losses to Miami and then Middle Tennessee, but the Yellow Jackets are now desperate. Bees die when they sting, and Georgia Tech – though perhaps unable to win the ACC Coastal Division championship this season given that it already has two losses in the division – could give Clemson a very big ouch as this ACC season unfolds. Stranger things have happened in the history of college football.

Why Clemson Will Win

When football betting students break down this contest, they will certainly note that Clemson's defense will have only one week to prepare for Georgia Tech's triple option, but they'll also realize that Georgia Tech's defense is an absolute shambles right now. The Yellow Jackets have allowed more than 40 points in each of the past two weeks on their home field. Tech must now travel to Clemson to face a souped-up Tiger offense that hung 37 points on a legitimately good Florida State defense and then posted 45 against Boston College this past weekend.

Clemson quarterback Tajh Boyd has become a top-tier passer in the ACC, and that's partly a product of the coaching he is receiving from offensive coordinator Chad Morris, one of the hottest stars in the coaching profession at the moment. However, Boyd has also broken through as a player because he has so many gifted athletes surrounding him in the Clemson huddle. Receiver Sammy Watkins and running back Andre Ellington are elite performers, not merely good ones. Georgia Tech's defense, led by embattled coordinator Al Groh (who is likely to be fired at the end of this season, if not sooner), is quite likely going to be throttled in this clash.

Who Will Win

It’s true that Georgia Tech should score a fair amount of points against Clemson's mediocre defense, but it's even more probable that Clemson will outscore Georgia Tech, given the Jackets' woeful defensive unit. Take Clemson in this ACC encounter.
