LSU Florida Betting Tips – LSU Tries To Polish Its Offense On Road Trip To Florida

Posted by Blake Frazier on 10/1/2012 6:51:20 PM

The LSU Tigers are very much aware of how poorly they played in their first SEC road game of the year at Auburn on Sept. 22. They have to be better on offense when they face Florida.

Why LSU Will Win

No bet on sports is completely guaranteed, it's quite likely that LSU will be able to find the muscle needed to overwhelm Florida this weekend. The Bayou Bengals tripped up at Auburn just over a week ago. Their defense was fine, but their offense was not. Quarterback Zach Mettenberger stumbled badly in his first SEC road night game, committing two turnovers and giving Auburn timely injections of momentum and confidence. Mettenberger's inability to handle a daunting road environment in his first full season as LSU's starting signal caller was the first (and second, and third) reason why the Tigers almost lost and very nearly suffered a crippling blow in their attempt to defend both their SEC West and SEC titles. To some, this might seem like a good set of reasons to pick Florida, but this actually does work in LSU's favor.

Part of a national championship season is found in the fortuitous escape on the road, in adverse circumstances. LSU was naturally lucky to get out of Auburn alive, but that brush with mortality is precisely what should make the Bayou Bengals a better team in this game. Mettenberger, with one SEC road game under his belt, should be a better player in this contest. He should make better decisions and display improved ball security. LSU's defense remains one of the elite groups in the country. It should be able to throttle a Florida offense that has been adequate, but hardly imposing. The Gators' performances might look impressive until you realize that the defenses they have outclassed – Tennessee's and Kentucky's in particular – are just not very good. LSU will win this game as long as it doesn't commit more than one turnover.

Why Florida Will Win

Even mma betting experts know that young quarterbacks are unproven quarterbacks until they demonstrate that they can handle the heat. It's not yet known if Zach Mettenberger has learned from his mistakes at Auburn. LSU's team has been so good in recent years because of the prowess of the Tigers' defense and the power (not to mention the depth) of the Bayou Bengals' running game. However, the quarterback situation in Baton Rouge has been a different matter altogether. LSU head coach Les Miles has constantly failed to field and cultivate a top-tier quarterback. That's the only thing that has held the program back over the past few seasons. Unless or until Mettenberger conclusively shows that he's ready to handle the pressure of football's most important position, he can't and shouldn't be trusted in an intimidating road environment such as The Swamp in Gainesville, Fla.

Florida's defense is a very confident group at the moment. Head coach Will Muschamp, a former defensive coordinator, has his Gators playing with urgency and belief, especially in the second halves of games. LSU barely beat Auburn, and Florida is a better team than Auburn at the moment.

Who Will Win

Don't assume that LSU will stroll to the finish line first, but with that having been said, the Bayou Bengals are clearly stronger in the trenches and more athletic at most spots on the field. Florida needs a special performance on offense to win this game, and quarterback Jeff Driskel is not ready to deliver the goods on a grand scale. Take LSU in this tilt.
