The Missouri Tigers and Texas A&M Aggies face offensive limitations for distinctly different reasons. These two teams will see who can create more offense on Saturday.

NCAA football betting: Missouri Tigers @ Texas A&M Aggies

Online Betting Odds: Texas A&M -3

Why To Bet On Missouri

The best reason to pick the Tigers this Saturday is the Texas A&M offense. The Aggies have melted down this season on the offensive side of the ball. Coach Mike Sherman's A&M outfit has turned the ball over at least four times in four straight games. On Sept. 18 against Florida International and then on Sept. 30 versus Oklahoma State Cowboys, A&M quarterback Jerrod Johnson – who was a highly-touted player during the offseason – threw four interceptions and continuously sabotaged Aggie drives. Johnson has been a spectacular bust, a crash-and-burn disappointment for an offense that was expected to flourish, and for a team that was expected to excel in the Big 12 South Division. Sherman is on the hot seat at a program that nearly switched conferences on two separate occasions this past June. A&M's confidence has to be shot after yet another discouraging loss this past weekend against Arkansas Razorbacks. Despite a defense that stood on its head against the Razorbacks and quarterback Ryan Mallett, Johnson couldn't hold up his end of the bargain. The Aggies coughed up four more turnovers and scored just three points in the second half. Yes, A&M's defense held Arkansas to just three second-half points, but that impressive effort went for naught because of Johnson's head-scratching problems. Missouri's defense is fresh off a shutout of the Colorado Buffaloes this past weekend, so if the Tigers' defense continues to thrive, you can expect Mizzou to gain multiple takeaways against the A&M offense. A positive turnover differential would strongly enhance the Tigers' chances of winning on the road in College Station, Texas.

Why To Bet On Texas A&M

The best reason to pick the Aggies is that Missouri's athletic and versatile quarterback, Blaine Gabbert, is questionable for this game. Gabbert suffered a hip pointer that severely affected his performance in the second half of last week's game against Colorado. Missouri coach Gary Pinkel's prime pupil finished 17-of-29 for 191 yards and two touchdown passes. The Tigers’ rush offense was nearly nonexistent on Saturday evening, too. Mizzou’s four tailbacks combined for just 51 yards on the ground against a mediocre Colorado defense. MU’s second-longest running play versus Colorado was a 26-yard scamper by punter Trey Barrow on a fake early in the second quarter.

Backup quarterback James Franklin, who led Mizzou’s fourth-quarter touchdown drive against Colorado, will be the starter if Gabbert is unable to play. The freshman will have a tough task in front of him if he is forced to lead the Tigers in what will be their first trip outside the state of Missouri this season. Gabbert is an upperclassman, but what's more important is that he is a highly-skilled upperclassman. If Franklin starts this game at Kyle Field – which is not an easy place to play for visiting teams – A&M's chances of victory will go up significantly.

How The Game Will Play Out

Both offenses should struggle and both defenses figure to dominate. Gabbert will probably play, but that's just a hunch. Yet, Missouri doesn't need a dynamic effort from Gabbert if he is allowed to start under center. The Tigers would only need their signal caller to manage the game and throw a few key passes when needed on third downs. A&M's defense is solid, but the Jerrod Johnson train wreck shows no signs of getting better. If Gabbert starts, take Missouri in this game. If he doesn't, well, this game might be taken off the board.
