Music City Bowl Betting – Bulldogs Look To Finish Strong At Music City Bowl

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Wake Forest Demon Deacons were barely bowl eligible at the end of the year, yet both programs were fortunate to land a bid in the Franklin American Mortgage Music City Bowl. The Demon Deacons opened the year strong, but dropped four of their final five to close out their regular season, while the Bulldogs lost two of their final three and all four games they played against nationally ranked opponents. While both teams strung a note of luck to reach the postseason, bowl games are usually the platform on which both teams play their best football, and it will be interesting to see how they respond on the biggest stage.

Wake Forest should be pumped for a return to the postseason with its first bowl game since 2008. However, the Bulldogs have won each of their past four bowl games, and will be motivated to extend that streak after underachieving in a year where sports betting expectations were slightly higher.

Music City Bowl Betting Preview: Mississippi State

Mississippi State routed Michigan 52-14 in last year’s Gator Bowl on New Year’s Day, but this year’s team didn’t come close to matching the success of a group that finished   9-4 in 2010. This year marks the first time that the Bulldogs have become eligible for bowl games in consecutive years since 1999-2000, and their offense is powerful enough that they should have a strong chance to make it a successful one. Senior running back Vick Ballard rushed for 1,009 yards this season, and has registered 29 total touchdowns over the past two years. The Mississippi State defense finished 19th in points allowed, and should be up to the challenge after holding Ole Miss to just a field goal in their SEC finale.

Music City Bowl Betting Preview: Wake Forest

The low point in the Demon Deacons’ season came when they were blown away by Vanderbilt in their regular season finale, and now they will need to prove they can regroup in time to face another tough test from the SEC. A 4-1 start is a distant memory now for a Wake Forest team that faded as the season wore on, but considering the play of quarterback Tanner Price and the program’s bowl history there is still room for optimism. Price threw for 2,803 yards and 20 touchdowns compared to just six interceptions, with none of those coming over the final four games. If Price and leading receiver Chris Givens build on the connection they built this season, the Demon Deacons should at least be able to keep it close.

Music City Bowl Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick

The Bulldogs are a team that likes to start fast, having outscored their opponents 70-9 in the first half of its last three wins, so if Wake Forest is going to have a chance they are going to have to bear down early. Containing Ballard will the toughest test, but the Demon Deacons are also going to have to find a way to score on their own against a tough SEC defense after getting blown away by Vanderbilt as sportsbook underdogs.
