Nebraska-Michigan State Headlines The Primetime Specials This Week In College Football

Posted by Blake Frazier on 10/1/2014 9:53:16 PM

In the Big Ten Conference, there’s no bigger game this weekend than the one between the favorite in the East Division and one of the favorites in the West. That’s the main attraction.

Nebraska Cornhuskers @ Michigan State Spartans – Saturday, October 4

The Nebraska Cornhuskers are, along with the Wisconsin Badgers, one of the two favorites in the Big Ten’s West Division. The Huskers have gone undefeated in September, but they have played only one conference game, and it came against Illinois, which is not very good and doesn’t expect to be better during the rest of the season. Nebraska faces a big jump in terms of the quality of its opponent when it plays defending Big Ten champion Michigan State on the road in East Lansing. Michigan State had a nasty defense last year, and that defense is still tough. What’s different about the Spartans is that they now bring a much more consistent offense to games this season. Connor Cook has developed into a solid quarterback who makes a lot more big plays than mistakes. He wasn’t always that kind of signal caller. He should be able to lead the Spartans up and down the field, and Nebraska, with running back Ameer Abdullah but not as consistent a quarterback in Tommy Armstrong, won’t be able to pass the ball well enough to win. Nebraska will run a little bit, but its offense isn’t balanced the way it needs to be to beat Michigan State.

College Football Betting Pick: Michigan State

LSU Tigers @ Auburn Tigers – Saturday, October 4

When you go over the various details of this game, LSU is hoping that quarterback Brandon Harris can handle a tough road venue at Jordan-Hare Stadium in Auburn. LSU struggled on offense most of the way against Mississippi State a few weeks ago, so coach Les Miles knows he needs his offense to be great from the very beginning against an Auburn team that knows how to score in bunches. Auburn’s run defense has been pretty good this season, especially in a big road win at Kansas State. LSU’s offense has to have its best game to get a good chance of winning, and that’s not likely. Go with Auburn here at home.

College Football Betting Pick: Auburn

Miami Hurricanes @ Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets – Saturday, October 4

The Miami Hurricanes just took care of the Duke Blue Devils, the defending ACC Coastal Division champions. Miami did so with defense, limiting Duke to 10 points and bothering the Blue Devils’ quarterback, Anthony Boone. Miami also won that game by stopping Duke’s running game and turning the Blue Devils into a one-dimensional team. If Miami can stop Georgia Tech’s triple-option running game, it can put the Yellow Jackets in a big bind. Miami should win this game as long as it can avoid turnovers.

College Football Betting Pick: Miami

Texas Tech Red Raiders @ Kansas State Wildcats – Saturday, October 4

The fourth primetime game of note this weekend is in the Big 12, and it’s a game Texas Tech has to win after losing a pair of games in September to Arkansas and Oklahoma State. Yet, Kansas State played a very good Auburn team close when it hosted the Tigers. Auburn is a lot better than Texas Tech. Kansas State should be ready for this specific game.

College Football Betting Pick: Kansas State
