Ohio Ohio State Betting – Buckeyes Need To Work On Kick Coverage Against Ohio

The Ohio State Buckeyes did a lot of things well against the Miami Hurricanes. They need to fix the things they didn’t do well as they prepare for the Ohio Bobcats.

Why To Bet On Ohio

The Bobcats – like a lot of other college football teams – got caught looking ahead this past weekend. Ohio won the Little Ceasars Pizza Bowl last year, fresh off its Mid-American Conference East Division crown. The Bobcats figured to give Temple a strong run for the MAC East championship in 2010, but after suffering a surprising loss at home to a Toledo team that got rolled by Arizona in its season opener (41-2 is a complete beatdown), Ohio faces a huge uphill battle for the rest of its conference season. The ambush at the hands of Toledo took a lot of college football pundits by surprise.

Yet, that’s precisely what makes Ohio an attractive choice against the spread this week. Ohio played Ohio State close in 2008, losing by only 12 points (26-14) and forcing the Buckeyes to seal the win with a kick return for a touchdown in the second half. Ohio didn’t dedicate itself to each and every snap against Toledo, but that lack of intensity was connected to a focus on this game. The Bobcats and coach Frank Solich will devote maximum effort to every aspect of this important encounter with its in-state version of big brother. Ohio State just wants to get through this game without injuries; Ohio wants to make a season-defining impression, and that kind of stuff matters in situations such as this one.

Why To Bet On Ohio State

The Ohio State Buckeyes did not get a brilliant game from Terrelle Pryor this past Saturday. They were inconsistent in the red zone and kicked a ton of short field goals (four under 25 yards). OSU allowed the Miami Hurricanes to frolic on special teams. Had it not been for Miami’s kick-returning prowess, which produced two first-half touchdowns, Ohio State would have put away Saturday’s game by halftime. Instead, OSU trudged to the locker room with a modest 26-17 advantage that should have been 26-3. Yes, Ohio State physically manhandled Miami in the trenches and overwhelmed Hurricane quarterback Jacory Harris, but the lack of kick-coverage quality made them sweat far longer than they needed to.

This is a physically imposing team which made a lot of mistakes last week and still won by double digits in a nationally-televised showcase game. Imagine what Ohio State could do to Ohio and everyone else on its schedule if it can just cover kicks well. OSU could easily blow the lid off this game and ring up huge numbers.

How The Game Will Play Out

Ohio State, a week after the Miami game, will play with decreased intensity. Ohio will spill the tank. No, the Buckeyes won’t come close to losing, but they won’t cover a number as large as 30.5 points. This looks like a solid three-touchdown win for OSU, which means Ohio will cover the number.
