Predictions For Arizona Stanford Betting – Cardinals Must Answer The Bell After Awful Loss

The Stanford Cardinal beat the USC Trojans and thought they were on top of the world… until they lost to the Washington Huskies. The Cardinal must bounce back against Arizona.

Why Arizona Will Win

If you like the thrill of sitting at the online poker table and taking a risk, the Arizona Wildcats just might be the perfect play for you on Saturday against Stanford. No, the Wildcats won't be favored against Stanford, but they definitely have a chance to win.
Arizona's big hope in this game is that its new offensive system under head coach Rich Rodriguez will be the perfect foil for Stanford's defense. Arizona's zone-read-based and spread-option concepts are designed to throw quick passes and get the ball to receivers in open space outside the hash marks, and ideally outside the numbers. ("Outside the numbers" refers to the area on the field where the numbers of the yard lines – "30, 40, 50" – are painted.) This line of attack did give Stanford problems last week in its loss to Washington. The Huskies beat Stanford on a simple quick hitch play that put the ball in a receiver's hands near the sideline. The Stanford cornerback was late in reacting to the play, and Washington scored a 35-yard touchdown to win the game.

Arizona could very well outflank Stanford in this game. Stanford's defense is a physical and powerful group, one that excels at rushing the passer and stuffing the run between the tackles. However, Arizona likes to throw the ball and work outside the tackle box. The Wildcats could very well expose the Cardinal's relative lack of speed and create the kind of up-tempo game they want, especially when they have the ball.

What also has to be said is that Stanford's offense just isn't very good. Quarterback Josh Nunes has struggled this season – not in fits and starts, but on a regular basis. Nunes just isn't very accurate or confident. He skips and bounces far too many throws, and he has not improved from week to week. His receivers have not helped him out, but the fact remains that Stanford has a very mediocre offense. If it doesn't perform well against Arizona, the Wildcats could very possibly capture a victory on the road in Palo Alto, Calif.

Why Stanford Will Win

If college football betting outcomes rest solely on offenses, Arizona would probably win. However, it's the defenses that are likely to separate these two teams from each other.

Stanford's defense is legitimately good… maybe not great, but really strong. The secondary is a bit of a weak spot, but the front seven is one of the most physical groups in the country. Stanford smothered the rushing games of both USC and Washington in recent weeks, save for one play in which it lost containment. The Cardinal are very hard to attack between the tackles. They will make Arizona into a one-dimensional offense. More importantly, they should be able to generate enough pressure on Arizona quarterback Matt Scott, disrupting the spread concepts the Wildcats want to use. Stanford's offense doesn't have to be great in this contest; it merely needs to establish the run with tailback Stepfan Taylor. The Cardinal should be able to overpower the weaker Wildcats at the point of attack and assert their superiority here.

Who Will Win

It’s not much of a contest at the line of scrimmage. Stanford is a much more physical team than Arizona. The Wildcats have better skill people, but Stanford's ownership of the point of attack will be too much for Arizona to overcome.
