Predictions For Stanford Oregon Betting – High Stakes In Eugene For Stanford-Oregon Bout

Posted by Blake Frazier on 11/14/2012 5:40:54 PM

The Stanford Cardinal want to make a BCS bowl game, and they want to take over first place in the Pac-12 North Division. They have a chance to achieve both goals this weekend.

Stanford Cardinal @ Oregon Ducks – Saturday, November 17
NCAA football betting line: Oregon -20.5

Why Stanford Will Win

Even an online horse betting guru – especially someone from the horse betting mecca of the Commonwealth of Kentucky – would know that anything can and does happen in November, when unbeaten teams seem to have a primrose path to the BCS National Championship Game. College football has a long, rich and documented history of November surprises, occasions when teams ticketed for the national championship game suddenly got ambushed when few to no pundits predicted an upset. Those horse betting fans in Kentucky would remember November of 2006, when the unbeaten and No. 3 Louisville Cardinals were knocked out of the national title chase in a Thursday night loss to Rutgers. For those outside the borders of Kentucky, last year's win by Iowa State over No. 2 Oklahoma State was and is a classic case of a November upset that turned a lot of expectations upside down in the college football world.

Oregon has to be vigilant in this game, and the big problem for the Ducks is that three defensive linemen got injured this past Saturday against California. Oregon has lost its starting safety as well, forcing kick returner De'Anthony Thomas to be switched to defense. Oregon is extremely thin on defense. It is being forced to play multiple freshmen who entered the season at relatively low places on the team's depth chart. Stanford, with a rugged offensive line and powerful running back Stepfan Taylor, is certainly playing Oregon at just the right time. The Ducks' defense is in major trouble. Stanford should be able to score a lot of points against Oregon.

Why Oregon Will Win

When a winning poker hand exists, you don't need to worry about outside influences or factors. You just play the hand. Oregon has that set of cards in this contest.
Oregon has simply been able to elevate its level of productivity this season. The Ducks are a better version of what they were over the past two years with Darron Thomas at quarterback. Mariota is a more precise passer than Thomas was. He offers more touch to go along with above-average zip. He's young, but he has already proven to be a wise and poised leader in the huddle. Teammates completely trust him, and in this home game, Mariota should be very comfortable against a slow Stanford offense that isn't built to stop the Ducks' attack. Mariota in the air and teammate Kenjon Barner on the ground should prove to be an unstoppable combination for Oregon in this game. It would be extremely surprising if Stanford can hold this offense under 40 points, and modestly surprising if Stanford can hold Oregon under 50.

Who Will Win

It’s possible that Stanford could stay in the ring for two and a half quarters, but Oregon's offense is so lethal that the Ducks will be able to pour on the points and get the win. Will the Ducks cover the number, however? Probably not, since they're so banged up on defense.
