Rutgers South Florida Betting Predictons – Scarlet Knights And Bulls Meet In Conference Clash

Posted by Blake Frazier on 9/10/2012 6:33:08 PM

The South Florida Bulls and Rutgers Scarlet Knights have both failed to make a BCS bowl game as the official Big East Conference champion. A journey of redemption begins this Thursday.

Rutgers Scarlet Knights @ South Florida Bulls - Thursday, September 13

Why Rutgers Will Win

This game might not be as close, as tenuous, or as fragile as any of several online casino games, but it's probably going to be a tight one just the same. This contest won't be decided by a river card – that's pure chance – but the margin between these Big East schools is not very great. Neither Rutgers nor South Florida has been able to claim Big East hardware over the past decade and a half, ever since South Florida became a Division I-A (Football Bowl Subdivision) program. Rutgers came very, very close in the 2006 and 2007 seasons, but coach Greg Schiano's team barely missed out on an Orange Bowl date. Now, new Rutgers coach Kyle Flood will try to forge the one achievement that's missing from the Scarlet Knights' recent resume.

The biggest reason why Rutgers will win is that South Florida is going to be tired. The Bulls played in Reno, Nev., last weekend against the Nevada Wolf Pack. That's a Pacific time zone game played in high altitude. Such a travel schedule, combined with the different breathing required of a game played at a considerable mountainous elevation, takes a lot out of a young athlete. Recovery time is needed.

Yet, South Florida is playing a Thursday night game right after that Friday contest. The very short turnaround time facing South Florida is likely to leave the Bulls in a diminished physical state. Rutgers is in prime position to pounce. The Scarlet Knights don't even have to play their very best game to win. They need to approach this game with an NFL mindset: don't make big mistakes; lean on your defense and your punting game; leverage field position; and wait for your big opportunity in the fourth quarter. A patient, simple plan by Rutgers, executed reasonably well, should be good enough to dig out a win in this encounter.

Why South Florida Will Win

When football betting wizards size up this Big East battle, they will note South Florida's short rest, but they're also going to look at the fact that South Florida has a clear advantage at football's most important position, the quarterback spot.

While Rutgers trots out unproven sophomore signal caller Gary Nova, South Florida coach Skip Holtz will be able to turn to a fifth-year senior, B.J. Daniels. It's true that Daniels has not always been a rock of dependability, but the key insight here is that in an early-season game, with so many players trying to find themselves and the flow of the season remaining hard to determine, it helps a great deal to have a senior quarterback behind the wheel. Daniels might not play a brilliant game, but he's likely to outplay Nova, and that will carry the Bulls a great distance.

Who Will Win

It’s going to be a game that will be decided by one score. Daniels might provide that score for South Florida, but the sense here is that the quick turnaround will leave the Bulls tired in the fourth quarter, and Rutgers will take advantage.
