USC Syracuse Betting Tips – USC Will See What Syracuse Has To Offer In Week Two

Posted by Blake Frazier on 9/4/2012 2:17:48 AM

The USC Trojans do not figure to be severely tested by the Syracuse Orange, but college football, being played by 19- and 20-year-olds, is always full of big surprises.

Why USC Will Win

Even an online horse betting guru could size up this game and conclude that USC has the better horses in the stable. Sometimes, the best reason to pick one team over another is a profound deficiency on the part of the inferior team. There are other games in which the best reason to pick a team is that it is superior to its opponent in every way. This is just such a clash at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse.

The Trojans are the vastly more athletic, physical and talented team. Even if Syracuse manifests a basic understanding of what USC might do, the Trojans still have athletes that easily outclass the Orange on the perimeter of the field, a place where speed and natural instincts are paramount. Robert Woods and Marqise Lee are two world-class receivers that Syracuse's defensive backs will not be able to handle. It's an unfair mismatch in this aspect of competition. USC's Heisman Trophy candidate at quarterback, Matt Barkley, should be able to shred Syracuse's back line of defense.
USC's defense is quite thin, especially at linebacker, but Syracuse's offense didn't gel for most of last season and does not have the weapons or potency needed to make the Trojans sweat. USC is just too loaded, and Syracuse too bereft of top-shelf quality, for this game to be particularly close in the fourth quarter. The outcome should be decided late in the second quarter, to be brutally and coldly honest.

Why Syracuse Will Win

When USC is formidably talented – there's no question or debate about that point. Yet, the Trojans have stumbled over the years against markedly inferior opponents, teams they should have been able to subdue without too much trouble. The most infamous example of USC's penchant for blowing a winning poker hand came in 2007, when the Trojans, as a 41-point favorite, somehow lost outright to Stanford. USC has also lost at Oregon State in 2006 and 2008 despite being a solid favorite. The Trojans lost at UCLA in 2006 as a massive favorite even though they were just one win from making the BCS National Championship Game against Ohio State. This is a team that can take its eye off the ball and perform without much of any precision or passion. USC might very well think that it can just show up and win, but Syracuse is going to open the playbook and display a great deal of energy. If USC is careless, it could create a 14-point deficit in the early stages of the game. The Trojans could panic, Syracuse could gain confidence, and the calculus of this contest could take a major turn.

Who Will Win

It’s true that USC is going to take every opponent's best shot this season. Everyone is once again out to get USC and shock the world. Can Syracuse pull off the upset? No. The Orange don't have the talent and skill needed to scare the Trojans. USC will pull away in the second half.
