College Football Betting: Week 1 College Football Television Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 8/31/2015 10:37:40 PM

These days there is more college football on the tube than ever before. Here is a look at the games featuring ranked teams (not taking an FCS holiday to start the year) that you will not need special subscription tv packages to enjoy. That would be ESPN and the other major networks, just to be clearer. Picks and leans included.

September 3

#2 TCU Horned Frogs vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

TCU -14

The Horned Frogs will be the first elite team to have their closeup this season. They will be looking to make a statement and have the personnel to do so. Their defense might be on some new legs but the offense will shine and they will cover easily. Take TCU.

Friday September 4

#4 Baylor Bears vs. SMU Mustangs

Baylor -35.5

In their first game the Bears should not be pressed too hard by SMU. All eyes will be on QB Seth Russell as he assumes the leadership of one of the most prolific offenses in the county. This game might have some fits and starts for Baylor but they will win easily. I hate big numbers like this but Baylor is the play.

Washington Huskies vs. #23 Boise State Broncos

Boise State -11.5

Boise’s chance for any kind of special season will require a win each time out. This is a game they can get but it won’t be easy as they break in a new quarterback against a Power 5 team. Washington has tons of unknowns and coach Chris Peterson will be primed to jump on his former team. I am leaning towards Washington.

Saturday September 5

#21 Stanford Cardins vs. Northwestern Wildcats

Stanford -11.5

Battle of the Brains here. Stanford is looking to get back to the elite and I think they will be a factor in the PAC 12 North race. I am expecting that they will own the Wildcats in this one with their physicality, even on the road. I am hoping the number comes down but I still like Stanford to cover.

Virginia Cavaliers vs. #13 UCLA Bruins

UCLA -17

UCLA has but one question to quarterback. It looks like Josh Rosen, a frosh, is the man. Unless he throws some pick sixes there is just too much of an advantage for UCLA in all the other areas not to be victorious. Take a pass on the number though until we see more of the phenom.

Louisville Cardinals vs #6 Auburn Tigers

Auburn -10.5

Louisville is a big play on team for me this year. If I had to pick one ranked team to fall this weekend it would be Auburn. They will have a QB making their first start against probably the best defense in the ACC. Definitely take Louisville and the points.

#15 Arizona State Sun Devils vs Texas A&M Aggies

Texas A&M -3

This is going to be the most exciting game of the first week. You could easily make a case for the Aggies to be ranked right now and both offenses are loaded. It might be first one to 50 points wins. Take the over and enjoy the show.

Texas Longhorns vs. #11 Notre Dame Fighting Irish

Notre Dame -9.5

I am down on Notre Dame to start the season. QB Malik Zaire might be good enough but I

haven’t seen it yet and I am not sold that the supporting cast is playoff worthy the way some others are. Texas could stay in this one on defense alone. Take the Longhorns. They will probably lose but it will be close.

#20 Wisconsin Badgers vs. #3 Alabama Crimson Tide

Wisconsin -10.5

Can Alabama roll over a team like Wisconsin with a question mark at QB? Maybe. Their defense is supposed to be really good and the Badgers have a few question marks themselves. Alabama is the play here but I am not totally confident they are elite this season.

Monday September 7

#1 Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Virginia Tech Hokies

Ohio State -11

Take the Hokies. Not because they beat OSU last year on the road but because the Buckeyes are down several players due to injury/suspensions and they might not be completely done reading all of their press clippings. This is a very good team but I think they will get exposed early - just like last year. I am not saying lose, but they won’t dominate.
