Primetime Picks For Week 4 of the College Football Season

Posted by Blake Frazier on 9/15/2014 9:53:37 PM

The first couple weeks of college football action is lucky to have a game or two that intrigues all football fans, but now that we're coming up on conference play there will be numerous high-profile games happening each and every week. This coming week kicks-off with a Top 25 battle Thursday night, and continues into the weekend as the likes of LSU and Alabama have tough in-conference match-ups.

Auburns Tigers @ Kansas State Wildcats

Thursday September 18, 2014 – 7:30 PM ET

Odds: Auburns -9.5

The Auburn Tigers are rightfully the favorite in this mid-week match-up, but with quarterback Nick Marshall struggling to pass the ball this season it may have a closer than expected finish. Marshall is completing just 56% of his passes through two games, but his running numbers of 19 carries for 122 yards proves he's still one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks in the country. Both team's defenses have been living up to expectations so far this season, but Kansas State quarterback Jake Waters is the team's x-factor as he's thrown for 462 yards and ran for another 193, effectively making the Wildcats my sports betting pick for this game.

Pick: Kansas State

Clemson Tigers @ Florida State Seminoles

Saturday September 20, 2014 – 8 PM ET

Odds: Florida State – 19.5

The Florida State Seminoles are heavy favorites in this ACC match-up, but the Clemson Tigers should give them a run for their money as they contended with the Georgia Bulldogs Week 1, and blewout South Carolina State last week by a score of 73-7. So far it appears they've successfully replaced departed quarterback Tajh Boyd, and their defense should be able to keep the Seminoles under 40 points Saturday, making the Tigers a smart pick given the huge 19.5-point spread.

Pick: Clemson

Florida Gators @ Alabama Crimson Tide

Saturday September 20, 2014 – 3:30 PM ET

Odds: Alabama -14.5

The Florida Gators have fallen from their pedestal in recent year's, but they may be making a comeback as they're 2-0 on the year including a 65-0 blowout of the Eastern Michigan Eagles. They weren't as sharp last week playing against the Kentucky Wildcats, but junior quarterback Jeff Driskel is due for a breakout season and so far is completing 63% of his passes and has a touchdown to interception ratio of 4:1. The Alabama Crimson Tide still have a huge question mark at the quarterback position, but their running back depth is tops in the country and you can put you money on T.J. Yeldon and company to beat the Gators big.

Pick: Alabama

LSU Tigers @ Mississippi State Bulldogs

Saturday September 20, 2014 – 7 PM ET

Odds: LSU -10

The LSU Tigers are rightfully favored in this match-up, but the Mississippi State Bulldogs are a team to be reckoned with as quarterback Dax Prescott is one of the more underrated signal-callers in the country as the 6-2” junior has thrown for nearly 700 yards in three games, and has ran for another 273 and two touchdowns. You can bet LSU will be game planning to stop the Bulldogs' main offensive threat, putting the pressure on the Mississippi State defense to keep this a low-scoring affair, a tall task for a group that gave up 34 points to UAB earlier this season.

Pick: Mississippi State
