College Football Betting: Week 9 Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 10/26/2015 9:59:16 PM

Saturday is Halloween so there should be just that much more spirit on campuses all across America. Unfortunately we don’t get any truly great games, the only matchup between ranked teams is at surprising Temple, where the Irish come calling.

Thursday October 29

North Carolina Tar Heels vs. #23 Pittsburgh Panthers

The Panthers are 4-0 in ACC play and leading the Coastal Division. UNC is also undefeated in conference play making this a very big game for teams who were not thought to be a part of the picture heading into the season. The Tar Heels are small favourites on the road. I like them better than the Panthers but I am going to wait until game time to see how the line holds up.

West Virginia Mountaineers vs. #5 TCU Horned Frogs

The Frogs were off last week and now host WVU on Thursday night. This is the nation’s second most prolific offense and I just don’t see how the Mountaineers are going to slow them down. -14 is a sizable number but I will be backing the home side.

Saturday October 31

Syracuse Orange vs. #17 Florida State Seminoles

FSU shook up the rankings and the conference last week when they lost to Georgia Tech - what a finish. That puts that much more pressure on them at Clemson next week. It’s a classic look ahead but Syracuse is not going to be able to capitalize. They can cover the +20 though.

#3 Clemson Tigers vs. NC State Wolfpack

Similar to the above the Tigers can’t get caught looking ahead. It is surprising to see them so highly ranked and the public is just waiting for a return to “clemsoning”. The Wolfpack are good enough to spur that along and are a solid bet at +10 at home.

#11 Florida Gators vs. Georgia Bulldogs

This annual tilt between rivals has changed a lot over the last month. The Gators are looking to rebound after a loss to LSU while Georgia can get back into the East Division race if they can get this one. If not it looks like Florida will claim the division title. Georgia is missing Nick Chubb but they can still be a force, they just have to get their mojo back. I will take them plus the three points.

#12 Oklahoma State Cowboys vs. Texas Tech Red Raiders

They have their toughest games remaining but the Cowboys are 7-0. While everyone is looking at Baylor and TCU they are right there with a chance to win out and go to the playoffs. This is an important game and on the road but this team has it going right now. They only have to win by three so you really only have to think about whether they will win or not. I think they will.

Maryland Terrapins vs. #10 Iowa Hawkeyes

The most surprising of the undefeated teams looks like it will be so for another week as Iowa hosts Maryland. The Hawkeyes may not be great but the Terps are terrible. Still it makes me nervous to back this program as such a heavy favourite so I suggest taking a pass on this game.

#15 Michigan Wolverines vs. Minnesota Golden Gophers

The Wolverines are still on track to have a season much better than expected. If they can finish strong. They host Ohio State to close the season and if they want that game to have any meaning they have to respond with three road games in the next four. With a week off after MSU I trust coach Harbaugh to have the troops ready. But I don’t like the number -12.5.

#9 Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs. #21 Temple Owls

Is it really possible the Owls could make the playoffs? They are undefeated but yet large dogs against the Irish this weekend. This is a defense first team and that group will have to play its best game of the season to get the win. I will take them against the spread at +9.5. If only to feel like I am on the popular side. I admit I want them to win.
