College Football Betting: Week 2 CFB Preview

Posted by The Wiesguy on 9/7/2015 10:51:24 PM

The second week of the college season is always a little anticlimactic. For me there is just one game that I am really excited to see - Oregon vs. Michigan State - but there are some other games of importance as the SEC has some regular season tilts already. A couple of in-state rivalries are on order in Utah and Iowa and Jim Harbaugh goes for his first victory for Big Blue with the Beavers coming to town. With so few weekends of the season they are all important but this one is a little light.

Friday September 11

Utah State Aggies vs. Utah Utes

Utah -13.5

The Aggies avoided embarrassment last week thanks to a late punt return for a touchdown against Southern Utah. This week they need to be a lot sharper and that is what I expect. Look for their all everything QB Chuckie Keeton to keep this one close enough to cover. Take Utah State.

Saturday September 12

Oregon State Beavers vs. Michigan Wolverines

12:00PM

Michigan -14.5

The Wolverines are seeing a lot of the PAC 12 early this season, fortunately for them the Beavers are not as good as Utah and this game is at the Big House. Still Oregon State is well coached and I am not sure Michigan has yet earned being a double digit fave against another Power 5 team just yet. Take Oregon State.

Georgia Bulldogs vs. Vanderbilt Commodores

3:30PM

Georgia -20

The Dawgs were pretty sharp last week and they open their SEC schedule with a bit of a cupcake in Vanderbilt. Still this team is working in a new signal caller this year so all the reps are important. RB Nick Chubb got off to a decent start last week as he tries to track down a Heisman. Georgia all the way.

Iowa Hawkeyes vs, Iowa State Cyclones

4:45PM

Iowa -3.5

Neither one of these teams is expected to be much of a factor in their conference races this season. Still there can be a lot of pride in these games so you have to at least consider a home underdog, until you realize that the Cyclones are pretty close to the lowly Jayhawks in the B12. Don’t get too caught up in a spirit play. Take Iowa.

Oklahoma Sooners vs. Tennessee Volunteers

6:00PM

Pick

The Vols may be rising but I am not sure that this game being in Knoxville is enough of an advantage to justify this number. Oklahoma is going to be revitalized on offense this season and they have more in the arsenal than the Vols. Their defense is better too. There might not be a better time to back OU.

Oregon Ducks vs. Michigan State Spartans

8:00PM

Michigan State -3.5

This game is huge for both clubs, especially for Michigan State which will not get a lot of chances against teams this good this season. Both won last week but the games were a little tighter than you would expect. Perhaps they were saving their energy for this one. Look for the Spartans to exact some revenge at home. Take Michigan State.

LSU Tigers vs. Mississippi Bulldogs

9:15PM

LSU -3.5

This game is a test of how important quarterback play is. MSU probably has the best one in the SEC in Dak Prescott but is not as talented as LSU is every other area on the field. Even though they are on the road I expect the Tigers to show that a dominating defense and ground game is enough. Take LSU.
