49ers Try To Get Their Offense Going On Monday Night Against Redskins
After losing two consecutive games, the San Francisco 49ers know that they can’t continue to go down the same road. Will they avoid stumbling on Monday Night Football?
San Francisco 49ers @ Washington Redskins – Monday, November 25
Sports betting line: 49ers -5
Why San Francisco Will Win
This is a situation in which the 49ers ought be able to correct their problems. Yes, this is a team with problems, but they’re on only one side of the ball. The Niners’ defense has been fabulous in recent weeks. It allowed only 10 points to the Carolina Panthers two weeks ago. That feat seemed like less than a big deal at the time, but when Carolina and quarterback Cam Newton performed well on offense this past Monday against the New England Patriots, the reality of limiting the Panthers to just 10 points took on added dimensions. The 49ers then allowed just two touchdowns to Drew Brees and the New Orleans Saints last week. That game was played in New Orleans, in the Superdome, on artificial turf. The Saints were playing in conditions that suited their offense, and yet San Francisco’s defense was able to contain them. This defense bears no blame for the past two losses, and it should be able to overpower a Washington offense whose front line is just not performing all that well in front of quarterback Robert Griffin III. Washington got bullied over the course of the first three quarters this past Sunday against the Philadelphia Eagles. If the Eagles could make the Redskins look so weak and ineffective, the 49ers should be able to make a much more resounding statement on defense against Washington’s largely feeble offense.
One should also say that the 49ers’ offense, as bad as it has been, should find Washington’s defense to be much easier to move the ball against. Carolina and New Orleans have two really good defenses. Washington’s defense isn’t nearly in the same class. The Redskins have hemorrhaged points against Green Bay, Chicago, Minnesota, and a number of other teams in the league. This is just not a good matchup for Washington.
Why Washington Will Win
When online football betting analysts look at this game, they’re going to realize something that they probably weren’t willing to see or accept a few weeks ago: San Francisco is an ordinary team. Truly – the 49ers do not inspire fear the way they did a year ago. Their offense, hampered by a concussion to Vernon Davis (a tight end who will play in this game, but not at full effectiveness), is not executing as well as it can. The absence of injured receiver Michael Crabtree has harmed this offense more than a lot of pundits probably imagined back in September at the beginning of the season. Washington – if it can play one of its better games of the season – can get a home crowd involved on Monday night and force the Niners’ struggling offense to make more plays than it might be capable of.
Who Will Win
The Niners are vulnerable, but Washington doesn’t seem to be strong enough to be able to take advantage of San Francisco’s points of frailty at the moment. Take the 49ers on the road.
