Bet Vikings Redskins – Redskins, Vikings Meet In Clash Of Underachievers
Two teams that seem to perennially underachieve will meet this weekend in the nation’s capital, with nothing more than pride on the line. The Minnesota Vikings are in the midst of a rebuilding process, something that has been reflected by their record in a two-win season with just two games left on the schedule. Meanwhile, the Washington Redskins haven’t been much better at five wins, although they did come up with an impressive performance in a 23-10 win over the New York Giants last Sunday in order to play the role of spoilers against their division rivals.

NFL Betting Lines: Washington Redskins – 6.5
The sports betting line for this game has been set at a touchdown, and a big part of that is based on the presence or absence of Minnesota running back Adrian Peterson. The Vikings are lost on offense without their best player, and without him it shouldn’t be difficult for Washington to cover at home.

Even with Peterson missing time this year, Minnesota still ranks fourth in the NFL in rushing yards, although backup Toby Gerhart doesn’t have the same explosiveness. Rookie Christian Ponder has been handed the reigns before he was truly ready, and he has done an admirable job under fire in order to keep the Vikings in games early on, but until he gets some more talent around him and a healthy Peterson it will be tough for the offense to continue to make progress. Meanwhile, the focus will be on the defense this week after they allowed at least 34 points in each of their last three losses, and have broken down fundamentally on several crucial plays.

The Redskins’ defense can testify to the frustration that comes up with giving up crucial plays defensively, but last week they were on the other side of that token as they were the unit making three picks to help steal a game from the Giants. Quarterback Rex Grossman will always make mistakes, but Washington seems prepared to expect that in exchange for some big plays, as they will undoubtedly look elsewhere next season. The Redskins’ have lacked a top rushing threat all season and gone by committee with mixed results, but it will be hard to rely on Roy Helu as the lead back in the long run.
Bet Vikings Redskins Preview: Outlook & Pick
While the Redskins appear to have the greater amount of talent overall, Minnesota is a team that is hungry to prove that it could do better than two wins, and they should at the least keep this game close. The sportsbook line is set at a touchdown, but look for Ponder and the Vikings to keep it close until the end, and at the least cover a spread that is bigger than an inconsistent Washington team deserves to be favored at.
