NFL Betting: The Manning Bowl Could Spell Problems For Giants
Denver Broncos @ New York Giants – Sunday September 15, 2013
Whenever Peyton Manning’s NFL team takes on his younger brother Eli’s NFL team, regardless as to which teams they are playing for, it is always referred to as the “Manning Bowl.” The online sports betting experts often refer to Peyton as one of the greatest quarterbacks of all-time, and Eli is a two-time Super Bowl champion. In week one of the 2013 season, Peyton Manning threw seven touchdown passes to his Denver Broncos teammates as Denver destroyed the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens. Eli and his New York Giants had six turnovers as they bumbled their way to a week one loss to the Dallas Cowboys. Despite the discrepancy in their performances, this Manning Bowl promises to be interesting.
Keep An Eye On: Giants Offense
The reason that Eli Manning is never mentioned in the list of current great quarterbacks is that he is either really good, or really bad. Despite two Super Bowl rings (one more than Peyton), the online betting sites still consider Eli a good quarterback, but not a great one. The Giants offense has also gone out in search of a running back to replace the fumble-prone David Wilson. This will be a shell-shocked and makeshift Giants’ offense that is going to try and play against a very good Denver defense. This will be an interesting matchup to watch.
Watch The Progress Of: Montee Ball (Broncos), Jason Pierre-Paul (Giants)
Denver running back Knowshon Moreno has never lived up to the team’s expectations, which is why the Broncos kept Willis McGahee around last season. The sportsbook experts see more lack of confidence in Moreno as rookie running back Montee Ball was getting some decent time in week one. Look for Ball to get more carries against a New York defense that is struggling against the run.
The New York Giants defense is getting older and more beat up, and it is only week two of the 2013 season. Jason Pierre-Paul took on the burden of being the pass rushing stud for the Giants and he was a valuable asset early in his career. But Pierre-Paul has been hampered by injuries the last two seasons and he was less then effective in week one. It will be interesting to watch Pierre-Paul in this game because, if he is not showing any improvement, then the Giants are in huge trouble.
When the Giants get on a losing streak, they tend to stay on that streak for a very long time. The Giants made a ton of unforced errors against the Cowboys and the Cowboys weren’t even really trying to force New York into bad situations. The Broncos are ball hawks and they will be looking to get Eli Manning to make a lot of mistakes in this game. Eli Manning will be all too ready to oblige the Broncos in another New York loss.
Odds: Broncos -4 1/2
