Browns Bills Betting – Hillis Leads Browns To Win In Snowy Buffalo

Sports betting players may not look at the Cleveland Browns and Buffalo Bills as a good game, but these two have a knack for playing in close games, and the snow in Buffalo should keep a team from running away from the other. But the Bills can’t stop the run, and the Browns have a guy who can put up huge numbers on the ground.

  • What: NFL betting
  • When: Sunday, December 12th, 1:00 PM ET
  • Where: Ralph Wilson Stadium, Buffalo, NY
  • Pick: Cleveland Browns +1

What’s On The Line

The Browns (5-7) have won two in a row after a 13-10 win at the Miami Dolphins, and their last four games have been decided by six points or less. The Bills (2-10) couldn’t get anything going offensively in a sloppy 38-14 loss to the Minnesota Vikings, and like many recent years, they’ve been playing for next year for a while now. Still, this should end up being an exciting game as both teams have some young talent on both sides of the ball, and they’ll both feel like they have a legitimate shot to win.

Offensive Matchups: Browns Bills Betting

Jake Delhomme continues to lead the Browns while Colt McCoy is hurt, and he threw for 217 yards and a score against the Dolphins. Peyton Hillis ran for 57 yards on 18 carries, and he continues to be inconsistent, although when he’s good, he’s really good. The Browns are 27th in the league offensively, but Delhomme has to be careful to avoid his knack for turnovers; he came out lucky against the Dolphins, who dropped a surefire pick that would have been taken back to the house. It’s also supposed to snow in Buffalo this weekend, and that means Hillis has to carry the offense this week to cut down on turnover chances.

The Bills are one spot ahead of the Browns in the offensive rankings, but they were truly awful in Minnesota, committing five turnovers. Ryan Fitzpatrick was picked off once and lost two of his three fumbles, and he simply can’t afford to turn the ball over like that. The Bills also had to abort the running game after they got down by a lot, then they lost a couple of offensive linemen and it went downhill from there. Buffalo has to find a way to keep Fitzpatrick upright to have a chance this week.

Defensive Matchups: Browns Bills Betting

Cleveland forced three turnovers against the Dolphins, all interceptions, and one was from rookie corner Joe Haden. The former Florida Gator got off to a slow start, but he now has a pick in four straight games and looks to be getting used to the speed of the NFL game like a veteran. Along with fellow rookie T.J. Ward at safety, the Cleveland secondary is getting better and better. However, there are a couple of injuries that could hurt the linebackers, which could hurt their 20th-ranked run defense.

Buffalo forced four turnovers of their own last week, picking off Tarvaris Jackson three times after knocking Brett Favre out of the game. One of them were returned for a touchdown, but it definitely wasn’t all good for the Bills, who gave up 210 yards on the ground and are the worst team in the league against the run by over 25 yards per game. They also gave the Vikings a couple of first downs on penalties, which is something they definitely can’t afford to do.

Betting Edge: Browns

Notable Injuries: Browns Bills Betting

Linebackers Scott Fujita (knee) and Titus Brown (head) aren’t likely to play, although Eric Barton (shoulder) should be able to go. McCoy (ankle) hasn’t practiced yet for the Browns.

Center Geoff Hangartner (knee) and backup Kraig Urbik (knee) are both out, which hurts the depth of an offensive line that is suspect, at best.

Betting Edge: Bills

Outlook and Pick: Browns Bills Betting

The Bills are 1-point NFL betting favorites at home against the Browns, who are 2-1 SU and ATS in Buffalo in three games since 2004. This should be a close game as we have already mentioned Cleveland’s run of exciting matchups, and the Bills have had five of their last seven decided by three points or less. We’re going to go with the Browns to grind out a win in Buffalo on the strength of Hillis, who will tear up the porous Buffalo run defense, and that will not only take away chances for Delhomme to turn the ball over, but the Browns should also win the time-of-possession battle. Go with Cleveland on the road in your online betting book.

Stan’s Pick: Cleveland Browns
