Browns Try To Win In The Din Of Arrowhead Stadium
After seven weeks of NFL competition, the Kansas City Chiefs are firmly in line for a playoff spot. They don’t want to disrupt their momentum or erode their confidence this weekend.
Cleveland Browns @ Kansas City Chiefs – Sunday, October 27
Sports betting line: Chiefs -9.5
Why Cleveland Will Win
This is a situation in which the Browns might be able to sneak up on the Chiefs. Kansas City still hasn’t played the Denver Broncos in the AFC West clash that all professional football fans are waiting to see. The Chiefs might face the temptation of boredom. It doesn’t seem logical, but the Chiefs might think that they can win with a minimal game plan, and they might think that the Browns can’t create the kind of game plan that can put them in a bad spot. The NFL is a league of parity. The very fact that the Chiefs have done so well in the first half of their first season with a new general manager, coach, and starting quarterback is itself a reflection of how quickly things change in this league. The NFL can turn in a heartbeat – not just in offseasons, but within the course of regular seasons as they develop. Cleveland might seem to be out of Kansas City’s league, but the Browns really aren’t that bad a team. They split their first six games this season, a marked improvement from the recent past. Moreover, Cleveland has produced a winning record since the Trent Richardson trade, showing a level of staying power that was not expected by a lot of pundits who felt that the Browns were giving up on their season or something to that effect.
Cleveland does not have a distinguished offense – no one would dare suggest the Browns are a particularly formidable offensive team with Brandon Weeden at quarterback. Yet, Cleveland can certainly win this game with defense against a Kansas City offense that is hardly overwhelming. The thing to realize about the Chiefs is that they win by not making the big mistake. They wait for opposing offenses to commit a turnover, and then they pounce. If Cleveland can finish plus-two or better in terms of turnover margin, the Browns have an excellent chance of winning outright.
Why Kansas City Will Win
When the online betting experts tackle this clash, they will point out that the Chiefs’ defense is as strong as any in the league. The Seattle Seahawks might have an argument here, but they got lit up by the Indianapolis Colts and Andrew Luck a few weeks ago. Kansas City’s defense just isn’t making very many missteps, and with Brandon Weeden under center for Cleveland’s offense, the Chiefs should feel very good about their chances of forcing multiple turnovers and steering the game in their favor… decisively.
Who Will Win
The Browns are going to try hard, but the Chiefs have the far better defense and are playing at home before one of the loudest crowds in the NFL. This game does not set up well for the Browns, even though the Chiefs have an ordinary offense. Cleveland needed (injured and unavailable) quarterback Brian Hoyer to play in this game in order to have a reasonable chance of winning.
