Preseason NFL Betting: Jadeveon Clowney Set To Face Weak Arizona Cardinals Offensive Line
Jadeveon Clowney was the number one overall pick in this past NFL Draft, and the freak linebacker is set to tear the league apart starting Saturday night against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cardinals have had one of the worst offensive lines in all of football the past couple years, and if their younger players can't get it together it will be a busy day for the pass rushing Clowney.
Players We're Watching
Jadeveon Clowney, Houston Texans- Clowney is one of if not the most NFL-ready players drafted this past May, and come Saturday evening he will prove everyone wrong who questioned his toughness and work ethic this past college football season. He'll have his fair share of struggles considering he's changed from defensive end to outside linebacker, but he's still a physical specimen who will be a starter from Day 1 and likely get plenty of snaps in this first preseason game.
Michael Floyd, Arizona Cardinals- Michael Floyd is entering his third NFL season in 2014, and so far the reports out of Cardinals camp is that the former Notre Dame standout is ready for his breakout season. Wide receivers have one of the steeper learning curves going from college to the pro's because of the extensive route tree they must learn, but it appears Floyd is ready to star alongside Larry Fitzgerald which could be the difference between this team getting a Wild Card spot or not.
Preseason Coaching Trends
Neither head coach in this Week1 preseason game has much NFL experience as Bill O'Brien has been in the college ranks his entire career, and Cardinals coach Bruce Arians is coming off his first season as an NFL head coach. Arians went 3-1 in the preseason last year, and finished the regular season 10-6, meaning he may be a guy that stresses the importance of these early season games and actually tries winning to get his team on the right track. O'Brien on the other hand will be more focused on evaluating his key players and rookies which will lead to extended snaps for players like Clowney and Tom Savage.
Although the Houston Texans defense has taken a step forward this year with the addition of Clowney, the Cardinals offense is one underrated unit that is set to explode in 2014. The first-team offense should have no problem marching down the field towards some early points, but once Carson Palmer is pulled some question marks arise at the quarterback position, which is the reason the Texans, who have a solid stable of back-up quarterbacks, should emerge victorious over the Cardinals Saturday night.
