Chargers Bengals Betting – Chargers Roll Over Lame-Duck Bengals
- What: NFL betting
- When: Sunday, December 26th, 4:05 PM ET
- Where: Paul Brown Stadium, Cincinnati, OH
- Pick: San Diego Chargers -7.5
Some sports betting players thought this matchup would mean something late in the season, and while San Diego has fought back from a slow start, the Cincinnati Bengals may be the biggest disappointments in the league as they host the San Diego Chargers on Sunday. San Diego has far more motivation, and they’ll take advantage of a bad situation in Cincinnati.
What’s On The Line
The Chargers (8-6) have now won four of their five games since the bye week after a 34-7 destruction of the San Francisco 49ers at home last week, and they’re now a game behind the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC West. The Bengals (3-11) won for the first time since Week 3 by edging the Cleveland Browns 19-17 at home, but it doesn’t matter at this point as it looks like there will be a full-scale rebuilding mission in Cincinnati. San Diego has everything to play for, while the Bengals are playing for pride and in some cases, their job (if they even want to be in Cincinnati anymore).
Offensive Matchups: Chargers Bengals Betting
San Diego remained in the top five of the league offensively without Vincent Jackson, but the receiver showed why he wanted big money by tearing the 49ers to shreds. Jackson had five catches for 112 yards and three scores, and he showed he was still a deep threat. Philip Rivers must be relieved, especially when he doesn’t know from week to week if tight end Antonio Gates will play. The rushing attack had just 108 yards, but the Chargers haven’t really run all year. With Jackson in the lineup, San Diego is a force against any defense it faces.
Terrell Owens went down for a knee injury, Carson Palmer was performing below average as usual, but guess what? The Bengals remembered they had a pretty good running back in Cedric Benson, who ran for 150 yards and guess what? The Bengals won! Cincinnati has been working so hard to get everyone involved in the passing game that they pushed Benson to the side, and that’s not the best thing when you have a quarterback playing as badly as Palmer. Owens is gone for the season, and Chad Ochocinco said he may not be back, so you may see the Bengals lean on Benson down the stretch.

Defensive Matchups: Chargers Bengals Betting
The Chargers’ No.1-ranked defense feasted on the 49ers, registering six sacks, and they had a shutout going until there was 4:26 left in the game. San Diego’s defense wasn’t on the field that long, timing in at almost 23 minutes, but they dominated a poor San Francisco offense the way they should have. They knew that the 49ers don’t have a running game, and they know that Alex Smith isn’t that good, so they just rushed and rushed and rushed some more. The only negative is that the Chargers gave San Francisco two first downs because of penalties, but outside of that, San Diego’s defense was great.
The Bengals held the Browns to 278 yards, and only 59 on the ground as they did a very good job on Peyton Hillis. They did manage to sack Colt McCoy four times, but when they didn’t get to him, he picked apart the secondary. The Cincinnati defense definitely didn’t perform as many thought they would in 2010, but the future is bright for end Carlos Dunlap, who had two sacks and is now tied for the league lead for rookies.

Notable Injuries: Chargers Bengals Betting
Gates (toe) will likely be a gametime decision again, but receiver Malcolm Floyd (hamstring) is getting better. Fellow receiver Patrick Crayton (wrist) is out, while linebacker Stephen Cooper (knee) and guard Louis Vazquez are questionable for the Chargers.
Owens (knee) is definitely out, while Ochocinco (ankle) may not be able to play either. Cornerback Jonathan Wade is also questionable for the Bengals.

Outlook and Pick: Chargers Bengals Betting
The Chargers are 7.5-point NFL betting favorites on the road in Cincinnati, where they are 3-0 SU and ATS since 1999. San Diego is 2-4 ATS away from home, and they’re 7-6 as a favorite, while the Bengals are 3-4 ATS at home, and 3-6 as an underdog. It’s very tense in Cincinnati right now from the top down, and that’s going to be a shadow over their remaining two games, while the Chargers may still be in the driver’s seat in the West despite being a game down. If Cincinnati can get pressure to Rivers, the Chargers may light the Bengals up. As it is, we’re taking San Diego to cover the online betting spread here.
