The San Diego Chargers have lost seven of their past eight games. They are desperate for something, anything, that can turn their season around this weekend in Pittsburgh.
San Diego Chargers @ Pittsburgh Steelers – Sunday, December 9

Why San Diego Will Win
At a football version of a poker table, you have to believe and trust that one day, your luck will turn around. For the San Diego Chargers, the constant source of hope in this game is that luck will finally operate for the Lightning Bolts, not against them.
Please realize this: Even though San Diego definitely has to be viewed as a poor football team – that's what a 4-8 team is, no doubt about it – the Chargers are continuing to put themselves in position to win on most Sundays. San Diego led New Orleans, 24-14, in the second half back in the early part of the season. The Chargers lost the game late. San Diego led Denver at halftime, 24-0, and lost that game in the fourth quarter. The Chargers led the Baltimore Ravens in the fourth quarter at home but couldn't close down that game, either.
The Chargers led the Cincinnati Bengals in the fourth quarter at home this past Sunday, but couldn't finish off another conference opponent. It's maddening to no end for the Chargers, their fans, and their coaching staff, but if this team can simply keep playing hard, it has a chance. Pittsburgh will probably get Ben Roethlisberger back, but Roethlisberger will hardly be 100 percent. He could very well struggle and labor through his performance this upcoming Sunday.
If he can't move very well and can't push the ball down the field, the Chargers' defense – which has been solid in recent weeks despite a pair of losses – can swoop in for the kill. Three or four takeaways, even for a team as snake-bitten as San Diego, can give the Chargers all the point production they'll need in Western Pennsylvania.
Why Pittsburgh Will Win
It's not unheard of for online horse betting analysts to use the terms workhorse and showhorse from time to time, and the Pittsburgh Steelers are definitely a bunch of workhorses.
This team could have given up. It could have lamented its fate and accepted the notion that it was not going to be able to beat the Baltimore Ravens this past Sunday. After all, Baltimore had a three-game lead in the AFC North. The Ravens were playing at home. Pittsburgh lacked star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger and was having to trot out Charlie Batch, a third-stringer in his late 30s, as its emergency starter under center.
Baltimore had already beaten the Steelers in Pittsburgh a few weeks earlier. The outlook was very bleak for coach Mike Tomlin's team. Yet, Pittsburgh rallied 'round the flag and won on the road, scoring the win that could save the team's season. Don't expect the Steelers to lose the momentum or confidence they gained in Baltimore. Don't expect San Diego to find a way to win games, either.
Who Will Win
The Chargers don't know how to win, and the Steelers do. That's the best and most succinct way of saying that you should trust Pittsburgh in this game, even if Roethlisberger does not play well.
