Colts Face Tough Test As They Visit Patriots In AFC Divisional Round
The Indianapolis Colts pulled through with a dramatic online sports betting comeback win over the Kansas City Chiefs in the AFC Wild Card round. They certainly can’t afford to fall behind big again this week. The Colts will try to avoid another early letdown when they visit the New England Patriots in their AFC Divisional round match up on Saturday night, a game they will enter as 7.5-point underdogs. Indianapolis has shown a level of resiliency and ability to overcome adversity with Andrew Luck under head coach Chuck Pagano, but trying to beat the Patriots in New England will be their toughest test yet.
AFC Divisional Round
Indianapolis Colts @ New England Patriots
Saturday January 11, 2014 – 8:15 PM ET
Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, Massachusetts
NFL Sports Betting Line: New England – 7.5
The Patriots are tough to beat at home with Tom Brady and under head coach Bill Belichick, and they will have had plenty of time to prepare after a first-round bye. New England has overcome a ton of significant injuries to get to this point thanks to their ability to adapt and push forward, and they will have to do it again this weekend.
NFL Betting Preview: Indianapolis Colts
Luck threw for 443 yards and four touchdowns as he led the Colts back from 31-10 halftime deficit, but that doesn’t mean he can’t be better. Luck also had three interceptions, and Indianapolis’ four turnovers put them in the early hole that they somehow managed to overcome. The Colts won’t be able to make those mistakes at Foxborough and win, so they will have to avoid the mistakes that plagued them throughout the first half of their win over Kansas City. Indy’s defense also played a role in the comeback with just 13 points allowed in the second half, and keeping Brady in check for a full four quarters will not be easy.
NFL Betting Preview: New England Patriots
Even without so many of the weapons that he had at his disposal a year ago, Brady led the league’s 10th-ranked pass offense with 4,343 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. Having the bye week to prepare for this Colts’ defense will help, and Brady always plays his best football when it counts. The Patriots will also be able to rely on a running game that ranked in the top-10, led by Steven Ridley, LeGarrette Blount, and Shane Vereen, who contributes in the pass game as well. The New England defense will be missing both Vince Wilfork and Brandon Spikes in the middle, but they have dealt with significant injuries all year long, and Belichick should have them prepared.
NFL Betting Preview: Outlook & Pick
The Colts gave their online betting fans a memorable comeback as Luck continues to show a level of poise that most second-year quarterbacks don’t, but going in to Foxborough and beating a Patriots’ team led by Brady and Belichick will be a very difficult task. New England’s rushing attack has made up for the lack of weapons in the passing game this year, and unlike the Chiefs last week, the Patriots will not slow down after they build an early lead.
NFL Betting Pick: New England Patriots – 7.5
