Cousins, Redskins Look To Capitalize On Opportunity Versus Cowboys MNF
The Washington Redskins have won five straight home games to climb to the top of the NFC East at 5-6. They will look to take advantage of a favorable matchup with one of their biggest rivals in order to move one step closer to a playoff berth this weekend. Washington will host the Dallas Cowboys on Monday Night Football and with the New York Giants right there with them in the division race the Redskins can’t afford to let this one get away. Washington has played its best football at home this season and that will have to continue with the Cowboys in town on Monday night.

What It Will Take For The Cowboys To Win
All of the good feelings that were so contagious in Dallas the week before disappeared in a hurry when the Cowboys were blown away by the Carolina Panthers on Thanksgiving Thursday. Tony Romo looked awful before eventually suffering another clavicle injury that will likely keep him sidelined for the rest of the season and Dallas lost for the eighth time in nine games. Getting back on track on the road in Washington certainly won’t be easy and in addition to needing a stronger effort from the run game the Cowboys will also be turning back to veteran Matt Cassel with the hope that he can finally lead them to a win. The Dallas defense will have to step up and find a way to force Kirk Cousins to turn the football over but even then it won’t matter unless Cassel plays better than he has so far this season in a Cowboys’ uniform.
What It Will Take For The Redskins To Win
Cousins saved one of his best performances of the season for last week’s 20-14 win over the Giants as he completed 20-of-29 passes for 302 yards and a touchdowns with no turnovers and he will need to protect the football again this weekend. The Redskins have shown a strong balance between run and pass on offense and as long as they don’t turn the ball over they should be able to dictate the pace of this game against a suspect Dallas defense. Meanwhile, the Washington defense has really stepped up over the past couple of weeks and will need to do so again in order to keep Cassel from getting comfortable. The Redskins are coming off their biggest win of the year so they can’t afford a letdown at home in primetime on Monday night.
Outlook & Pick
The Cowboys haven’t been able to win with or without Romo of late and while his injury has devastated them it certainly isn’t he only issue plaguing this team. Meanwhile, Washington has transformed itself in to a legitimate playoff contender in the wide open NFC East and they should be able to keep the momentum going at home in primetime as they look to move one step closer to an NFC East title and playoff berth by beating Dallas at home on Monday Night Football.
Pick: Washington -4.5
