Eagles Cowboys Betting – Eagles Tighten NFC East Race With Win In Dallas
Online betting players counted Philadelphia out a few weeks ago, but the Eagles still have a small chance to make the playoffs in what has been a largely disappointing season for the “Dream Team”. The Eagles head into Dallas to face the division leaders, and they’ll pull off the season sweep with a critical road victory.
What: NFL Betting
When: Saturday, December 24th, 4:15 PM ET
Where: Cowboys Stadium, Dallas, TX
Pick: Philadelphia Eagles +1.5
Why Bet On Philadelphia Eagles (6-8 SU, 6-8 ATS)
The Eagles won their second consecutive game in a 45-19 trouncing of the New York Jets at home and they pounced on the Jets early, posting a 28-0 lead just 5:03 into the second quarter. Michael Vick was 15-of-22 for 274 yards, a touchdown and a pick, and he also ran for 32 yards and a score, while LeSean McCoy racked up 102 yards and three scores on 18 carries. Tight end Brent Celek had a huge day with 156 yards and a touchdown on five receptions for the Eagles, who would have put up even more points if not for three lost fumbles (and five in total). The defense stepped up to force four turnovers of their own, returning one for a score and they held the Jets to 241 yards, although Philadelphia gave their opponents three first downs due to penalties. End Jason Babin had three sacks to take his league-leading total to 18.0, and the Cowboys have to slow him down to have any success on Christmas Eve.
Jackson (elbow), Vick (ribs), receiver Jeremy Maclin (hamstring) and cornerback Asante Samuel (hamstring) should be able to go this weekend, and the Eagles need all hands on deck as they’re, somehow, still in the race for the NFC East. The Eagles are two games behind the Cowboys in the division, and a title is the only way that Philadelphia can make to the playoffs because they’re not going to win the wild card. The troops are rallying around head coach Andy Reid, who is on the hot seat, and they have to bring that intensity into Dallas.
Why Bet On Dallas Cowboys (8-6 SU, 5-8-1 ATS)
Dallas halted a three-game skid with a 31-15 win in Tampa Bay last Saturday night, and Tony Romo was incredible, going 23-for-30 for 249 yards and three touchdowns, and he also ran for a score as the Cowboys racked up a 28-0 lead by halftime. Felix Jones led the ground game with 108 yards on 22 carries, while Sammy Morris added 53 yards for the Cowboys, who were downright ruthless in the first half, but the playcalling turned conservative in the second half and head coach Jason Garrett has to keep his foot on the gas until the final whistle. Defensively, the Cowboys shut the Bucs down to the tune of 190 yards and only seven first downs along with three sacks, including one by linebacker DeMarcus Ware, who now has 16.0 on the season. Like the Eagles, the Cowboys have a disruptive pass rusher who can dominate a game and he’ll be after Vick all game. Ware had four sacks (Babin had two on the other side) in the Cowboys’ 34-7 loss in Philadelphia on Week 8.
Once again, Jones (hamstring) could end up on the inactive list and that means 34-year-old Morris could be the feature back on Saturday. The former Arkansas Razorback can’t seem to stay healthy and this could put more pressure on Romo if the Cowboys can’t run the ball. Receiver Laurent Robinson (shoulder) was limited in practice, but he should be able to go. Dallas is in pole position in the East with a one-game lead over the New York Giants (who host the Cowboys in Week 17) and a win would give them a bit of a cushion heading into the final week of the season. But the rushing defense has to be better after they gave up 239 yards on the ground in Philadelphia, which kept the Dallas “D” on the field for over 42 minutes.
How It Will Play Out
The Cowboys enter this massive divisional contest as a 1.5-point NFL betting favorite at home, where they are 3-2 SU and ATS in their last five against the Eagles, with three of those games going over the posted total. Dallas is a poor 2-5 ATS at home this season, while the Eagles are 4-3 ATS on the road.
The Eagles are coming around at the right time, and this is going to come down to the wire. It’s going to be interesting to watch the two head coaches in the final minutes as both have made crucial mistakes throughout the season and cost their team games. Look for a large dose of McCoy, Vick to make some big plays and Reid to win the coaching battle as the Eagles come up with a win in your sports betting book.Eagles Cowboys Betting Pick: Philadelphia Eagles
